Water and "assessed charge"

Options
Hi all,

Just a quick question as i wanted to make sure that Severn Trent weren't trying to diddle me out of anything... ;)

So - Assessed charges. I live on my own in rented accommodation and pay £465 per year for water and sewage. My landlord doesn't want to have a meter installed. Severn Trent tell me that Despite all of this they do not carry out an assessed charge and I have to pay the full rate or have a water meter fitted, despite living on my own.

Are they correct??

Many thanks
Paul

Yes they are - they are bound by the Water Privatisation Act.

The only properties on an assessed charge are those that cannot have a meter fitted for technical reasons - usually flats.

If your rental agreement is more than 6 months, the landlord has no say in the matter. You are the Water company's customer and you can apply to have a meter fitted.
