Oh one other thing to ask is, it was purchased with a credit card.
I remember something about being protected if you buy something and use your card with at least £100 etc
Can someone explain that to me please ?

Yes, if you paid at least £100 on a credit card, under section 74, the card issuer bears some responsibility for the purchase - worth a call to them?

Contact the seller and advise them that you just discovered the issue with the DPF fluid pipe but you haven't changed / tampered with anything yet.
Ask them about resolving it and if they try and get out of it, post back here for how to proceed.

Ok, I've been in touch with warranty company, they only cover major mechanical breakdown which is expected.
Then I rang the trader told him this,he advised to get it diagnosed so I've booked it in at a Peugeot dealership so it's all nice and official. Where I'm going to ask for a printout of there findings and also ask them to include the DPF tank fault and take that to the trader, who it seems his mechanic is booked up all this week blah blah, and see what he says.
So I'll be £65 out of pocket but have an "official" bit of paper,as he advised if I had "any mates" that could do it.
I take it it's his responsibility to sort it from there and he can't give me the one about wear and tear and age of the car?
Thanks for your replies it's all helping which I am grateful for.

    ok, update time :-(
Rang the trader and it was agreed that a diagnostic was needed so today its been to a Peugeot dealer had its diagnostic and a health check and a good chat with a helpful technician who carried out the work.
the black pipe that was loose/not in properly was just a breather pipe but the reservoir itself has been punctured at the front by "road debris" which is why its lost all its fluid.
Now im 99.99% certain ive not hit anything but the technician cant put any sort of time on it as to when that was done,so thats something that can be argued both ways.
Cost to replace reservoir and fluid MINUS labour £430!
The glow plugs arent working either which are used when the system needs them to burn the gases at a higher temperature for the DPF cleaning cycle.
Cost for parts unknown, but was warned that its quite common because of the age of the car that 1 or more of the glow plugs might snap on extraction meaning drillling them out and cylinder head off at appox 6 hours labour @ £65 an hour!eek.gif.pagespeed.ce.HrrfvM_9UC.gif
    So £400 plus parts
So just to bear that in mind!!!!
Lastly an amber caution note on slight play in o/s/f tie bar, £135 plus labour, but that was picked up on last years MOT so no issue there.

So ill put this to the trader tomorrow and ask for him to sort these problems or to offer a full refund and return the car as is.
Either way it was paid for on a credit card so i think i also have some protection that way also.

Can anyone give me anymore pointers from here?
Ive had a friend who is a trader write me a letter to send by email that ill send after advice on here.
    Thanks

Take it to a different garage £135 for a AR bar is ridiculous.

In fact all the quoted prices look ridiculous. You have your diagnosis now, the dealer will probably have it repaired elsewhere if he plans on helping
  • I don't think the dealer you bought it from is expecting you to use a main dealer, and base on its age unreasonable. the glow plug thing is a scenario that could happen but very unlikely unless those "technicians" are seriously heavy handed and want create work for themselves. the addative can be bought from a motor factors these days cheaper than maindealer prices. a salvage addative tank would suffice, and play in the anti roll bar is common on the pug 307 its just the D bushes (which I would recommend getting the parts from maindealer as pattern ones tend to not fit snug enough). good luck. 1.6 HDI OUCH!!!.

Yeah I agree if he does get it fixed then i agree I wouldn't use the main dealer I would find a good 2nd hand additive tank and get the fluid from a motor factor. The tie bar isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned it's the broken tank, no fluid and rough running that's the main issue.

So, you've had the car for a month and so far you've paid for two diagnostics but still haven't even phoned the original trader to ask him to have a look at it?
Go ahead, go straight to complaint email and letter, it always helps defuse problems.
  • Hi guys,im back for more advice and help all is welcome and appreciated.
OK a big update but here goes.
After talking with the trader on the phone and he agreed to get hold of an additive tank and the fluid to send to me.
10 days pass and no signs so i get hold of him by email now,so its written proof now of our conversations.
in the meantime the EML comes back and the car cuts out,it will just about do a couple of miles before cutting out now.
My local garage after a free diagnostic(getting to know them well now) reckon the DPF is now blocked, possibly because an extra fault of high pressure fuel sensor is coming up.So it is now off road until its fixed properly.

    Here is how it went..

    Re: Peugeot 307 ***
After our conversations on the phone, nothing has been done to resolve the problems with this car. I have tried to be diplomatic, ive even paid for a diagnostic,at your request,at Peugeot. After using the car sparingly while waiting for you to send me the relevant parts to hopefully solve the problems, the car is now undriveable and therefore "not fit for purpose". I expect a reply as soon as possible to hopefully solve the problems or a full refund. Regards,(name)

    Hi (name),
when I spoke to you on the phone you explained the result of the diagnostic from the Peugeot main dealer was that the fault was being caused as a result of the additive tank on the underside of the car being damaged from debris off the road , in which case I do not feel I can be held responsible for these damages , as there was no such fault when you collected the vehicle from my garage, however as a will of good gustier(gesture of good will??) if you can get the car down to my garage I will have the car checked over and split the cost of the repair with you . Please reply and let me know because I will have to make arrangements with my Machanic
    Thanks,(name)

So where do i now go??
    Whats my options?

    Thanks again
