Neighbours fence fell on new car...

Most home insurance policies have public liability, ask the householder to forward on a letter from you to their insurer requesting they pay to rectify the damage0

As predicted the neighbours insurance have refused to payout, and the neighbour who had previously offered to pay for the damage is saying they're not prepared to do that anymore either as they've got no money after fixing the fence (one post replaced, re-use of old panel cost her £300 she reckons), doesn't want bad feelings though...
OH is going to take it to the garage today to get it looked at.
Talk about having your cake and eating it!
Suggest a repayment plan?0 -
Spoke to my insurance again, they're going to try and recover the costs from my neighbour although I don't hold out much hope.
The repair costs outweigh the potential excess/ncd cost slightly so the claim has gone in.
Thanks everyone for the help/opinions.
BTW a new pedigree puppy has just turned up next door, probably cost about the same as the repair to my car...0 -
If your neighbour had any decency they'd be paying for the damage to your car themselves. Whether or not they can claim on their insurance should not be your problem.

Nothing wrong with the neighbour! They cannot get their insurance to pay because they are not responsible for this "act of god"! That is what the OP has comprehensive cover for.
So all the policyholders of the OP's insurance company will be paying for this - exactly how insurance works.
(What if the car was a bentley and written off, and you were the neighbour you now ask what is wrong with?)0 -

Yes but they only pay if the householder is liable (that's what liability means).
None of us are liable for the results of storms.0 -

If you could show that the fence was already faulty BEFORE the storm, that the neighbour knew about it (or ought to have known about it) but did nothing to rectify it AND that it would not have fallen down if the repairs had been done then you might have a case.
Otherwise it is bad luck, I'm afraid.0
