I'm looking to change to argos but they seems to have increased there prices somewhat. I checked a few months ago for my springer and having done a quote again it's £10 a month more expensive than if I'd took out the policy a few months back :/

My lurcher is with M&S and when we adopted him 7 years ago, his monthly premium was £9.40. He's about to turn 10 and the renewal quote has just come through at £125 a month  an increase of £41 a month from last year.

Oh my God!!! £125 a month???? Has he had a lot of claims or something?

I am with Tesco for my dogs - 10 year old who has diabetes and claimed a lot is £45 month - though not lifetime policy but at least affordable! 6 Year old is only £25 month.
  • I'd love to have a £2 / month increase!

All mine (2 cats & dog) increased by around 50% last renewal

I've hunted around & can't find a similar level of cover as Axa at anywhere near the price :(

Even reducing cover from £7k to £4k, with a % of total costs (Archie & Maisie) and I'm still looking at well over double what I pay with Axa :(
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

In fairness, yes he does have an ongoing condition. But when compared to my whippet who Axa have paid out £14,000 for in 2 years, it's small fry.
Axa increased my premium by £11 to £43 a month, so I'm at a loss as to why M&S have hiked it so much, given they're both the same age.

I'm considering cancelling the M&S policy and taking out another policy with Tesco. I know we'll have to cover the pre-existing, but when you also consider we currently have to pay the excess plus 20% of the bill, we'd need to spend an awful lot to get close to breaking even.
Just need to speak to our Vet to see what's on my boy's medical records and also check what, if any conditions could be connected to the pre-existing.

Ive just let my M and S policy lapse. Id had it since dog was a puppy - it was excellent at first with no excess and reasonable premiums. Theyve changed the insurer about 4 times now. Last year my dog was £500 a year - which I thought was bad enough, this year they want £750 and next year when he is 9 I reckon that will almost double again. So Im just giving up and keeping the money in the bank. Hopefully we will be ok if he needs treatment. He has got dry eye but that costs about £200 a year in ointment and you have to pay a hefty excess now- so over £650 less than the premium they want.

I think a lot of these insurers will be dumping dog insurance and they are doing it by upping the premiums until people just cant reinsure. Its a dreadful situation.
