Australia has vanished!

Australia must have disappeared. I can't think of any other reason why Royal Mail would be so very determined not to let a small, inoffensive envelope out of the country! A week ago DH posted an envelope to 11 (street name), Kalamunda, Western Australia. It was posted at the PO counter so has the correct postage on it, and a big bright blue airmail sticker. On Saturday it was returned to us by a lovely couple from 11 (street name), Western Super Mare who have apparently received it, put it back in the post box, received it again, given it back to the postman, and on receiving it a third time have put it into a separate envelope, addressed it to DH (who is very glad he'd put a return address on it) and posted it back to us at their own expense with a note explaining what had happened.
Lovely of them to do, and we're lucky that the accidental recipients didn't just get fed up and bin it! What's it going to take to get it to Aus?!

If you lend someone £20 and never see them again, it was probably £20 well spent...

If it had come back from Chester, I might have understood (WA6 postcode)
Maybe go for "Western Australia" rather than "WA" on the envelope1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
OP says (or at least infers) that Western Australia was explicitly written.
Sounds to me like a person (or machine) has seen Western and ignored the rest of the clues (like Air Mail) and assumed Western Supermare.0 -
I wish it would disappear, my boss keeps sending me there.0

They don't keep convicts any more, Percy - they send them back.0

This could be the case but would be particularly incompetent on the part of the person/machine, as it is spelt Weston-super-Mare rather than Western!0
