Can anybody give me some advice please.

I had a contract with Orange mobile which was coming up to its 1st year anniversary and I wanted to cancel the contract and move the number over to Virgin on their PAYG as my other mobile is with them. I phoned Orange on 25th May to give a months notice and they asked me if I wanted a PAYG sim card for Orange. I said that I wasnt really bothered as long as I could keep the mobile number but the person at the other end seemed insistent that I have a Orange PAYG sim so in the end I said ok then. Move forward a month and I have still been direct debited the monthly contract price so I phoned Orange and they have said that they have not made a record of me cancelling the contract and so I owe them another month  they checked back on my records and said it states that I requested a PAYG sim card ( which I didnt they pushed me into having one ) I had even cancelled the direct debit with my bank but it still went through so I phoned my bank and now they are trying to do a chargeback to Orange. When I spoke to the person at Orange today I asked if they record conversations but they dont so it is my word against theirs.
I am so cross that they have basically conned me out of another months contract. Can anybody offer me any advice as to what I can and should do ?

edited to add - Im not having an awful lot of luck with mobiles today :( I have just phoned Virgin to sort out the Virgin £10 per month deal and it has been reduced to 100 minutes and 100 texts ( my current one is £10 per month for 300 miuntes and 300 texts and I got a free lobster phone too )

Basically, if they get you to take a PAYG sim rather than cancel it means they don't have a cancellation against their sales targets which is why they pushed you into it. Did you receive the PAYG sim and register it? Thats the way in which they cancel the contract. If you've not received it then you have a case against them as it's their fault they didn't send it.
