Same here, but then again, I don't really buy into any of these expensive car shampoos, imo they all do the same thing! As long as it gets the crap off, who cares!

Washing up liquid will take the crap off...... and also the protective wax coating, leaving your paintwork unprotected.

There's also the problem of how do you get it through the kitchen door and will it fit in the sink? ;)

I like the Meguiars wax. Smells nice and works well. Fairly easy to buff up too which is inportant. Some of the cheap stuff clings on like napalm.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

but what's going to protect the protection for the protection?????

clear coat was added to prevent the colour from running and fading. But we add a temporary sealant on the lacquer becxause clear coat is expensive to repair.

Then these car companies decided to add a a hard protector on the clearcoat. The hard protector stays for 1-2 years and scratches and chips like lacquer so you need to use a sealant on it to prvent that.

I try to balance getting the maximum protection with the minimum of effort/input from me due to arthritis.

I use Autoglym Super Resin Polish followed by Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection which is a water-thin wipe on product which you leave to dry and then buff up.

Water runs off a dream and even on a car which is never garaged it lasts 6 months.

But all this washing and polishing malarky needs to carry a warning that it very quickly becomes addictive. ;)

Incidentally for anyone who suffers from arthritis there is brilliant polishing pad with finger slots.

My son has that. Spends a fortune on cleaning products for his car.

To the OP, our previous car had that treatment. We had the car for 5 years and the paintwork was still immaculate when we got rid of the car. We used to use a wax free shampoo. I can't remember the make offhand though. Will see if I can find it online.

The only other thing we did was add some of the preserver to a final rinse of the car and then chamois it dry.

    Just remember, wax-free shampoo!

I found what we used. Zymol.

Like I said, we used that for 5 years on metallic paint, that had been treated with Pure Guard, and the paint was still like new when we sold the car. Only added the Pure Guard preserver to the final rinse.
