Be aware that when you set up payments that although you might not get charged until the following month they may then take the first month after that in advance plus the days from moving in until that first payment date so anything up to two whole months.

Thank you - so for the month of April I need to theoretically have double the amount for bills in case this happens?

Yes but you will be able to adjust budget and payment times etc as each time you set up new bill you can ask how they do things.

Don't forget to set aside money each month for yearly things like car mot or birthdays and Christmas. Dentist or eye care etc

Thank you, as long as I have enough set aside for the initial costs, and my budget is roughly accurate, I see no reason I can't go ahead.

The £100/month minimum will go towards MOT's, birthdays, etc. We plan to put a proportionate amount of our wages into a joint billing account each month, and a savings account so we still each have a little "spending money" for ourselves. Also, my partner works as a hotel manager and receives weekly amounts in tips - these will be going straight into a rainy day pot too.

I am determined to move out AND start savings :)

I was under the impression council tax bands are for the dwelling itself. When I checked on my local council site the tax band for the property was A which meant £105.

You are right, it is per property, Sorry for confusing the issue.:o

Use current accounts for savings, rather than savings accounts. You will get more interest that way.
