Budget for moving

I'm not 100% sure this is the right thread, so apologies in advance if it isn't.

I'm making a budget to move from my parent's home into a rented house and this is the first time I will be moving out so my budget it mostly guess work.

My question is - when do the first payments for utilities, etc become due?

For example, we are looking to move on 10th March. The payment for deposit and first months rent would be made on 3rd which I've been informed means rent would next be due 3rd April, 3rd May, and so on. But I have no idea when bills (gas, water, electric, council tax, tv license) become due. Will they be payable on move in or the following month?
I get paid on 25th of each month and my partner gets paid on the last day - I want to know whether we need to budget for bills in our Feb paychecks, or if they can wait until the March ones.

Hope that makes sense, thank you in advance.

Usually the following month and sometimes it takes a couple of months to set things up like water and council tax.

Don't forget to put something in for contents insurance (landlord should insure buildings)
    Rent
    Council tax
    Water
    Gas
    Electric
    TV licence
    TV services or use freeview
    Telephone
    Internet
    Food and household shopping
You will also need to budget for
    Haircuts
    Gifts
    Clothes
    Holidays
Car expenses Mot insurance repairs etc
    Petrol

Thank you - so I could assume I can wait to use March's paycheck's for the bills? We should have around £300 left after moving costs so would have some available if this was wrong, just wanted an idea.

    So far I have:

    Rent: 600
    Gas: 50
    Electric: 50
    Water: 35
    Council Tax: 105
    Internet: 50
    Sky: 45
    TV license: 13
    Mobiles+Tablet: 145
    Food shopping: 200

Plus debt repayments, membership payments, etc which I won't go into which leaves us £250 a month for frugal spending (we have unlimited cinema cards and lovefilms, don't eat out much, cut our own hair, and generally spend very little).

Hopefully it all sounds reasonable :/

Just a quick point on the TV licence, I think when you pay by DD that for the first 6 months you pay double - about £24 a month and then it drops to £12.12 a month.
Hope the move goes well for you.

Thank you, I will adjust my budget to £25/month. Better to over estimate than underestimate.

Council tax £105 - - is that for one or two people? Sounds much like one only.
Internet £50/mth sounds awfully expensive - check the main site for better deals
Sky: £45 - - - can you afford this presently? You say you have unlimited cinema and lovefilm, when are you watching all this stuff?
Mobiles and tablet: I assume £145 is for 2. That still sounds a hell of a lot per person. Again, check the main site for better deals.

Internet and TV looks very expensive as does mobiles and tablet.

Use your mobile and tether your tablet to it using the one package rather than two separate.

What size/age is your new place I only pay 90 for gas and electric in a three story town house with 4 adults living in it.

Go online for the council tax bill to check.

TV licence is double for the first six months then monthly.

£200 is a good starting budget for shopping for two people especially if you are not used to cooking.

£250 over is plenty if you have covered all your bills.

I was under the impression council tax bands are for the dwelling itself. When I checked on my local council site the tax band for the property was A which meant £105. Is that per person? I'd be grateful for clarification over this - as I say this is my first time living "alone".

Internet is £50 because it is Karoo's lightstream unlimited package - my boyfriend plays lots of online games and I stream films so we need a high, fast plan. It also includes line rental, free 01, 02, 03, 0845/0870 calls and 180 mins of mobile calls per month. We also live in an area where karoo is our only option for broadband - we cannot have sky or BT infinity :(

£145 is for 2 iphone 5's on 4g and a 4g enabled ipad, it is pretty steep and will be changing plans in Sept when our renewals are due.

Sky - this is a luxury my partner is determined to have (along with his fast internet and home built computers). I have told him it won't be our number one priority but thought it best to stick it in the budget to see if we can afford it.

    Thank you

Be aware that when you set up payments that although you might not get charged until the following month they may then take the first month after that in advance plus the days from moving in until that first payment date so anything up to two whole months.

If it's £105 then that's for the property.

Hadn't thought of tethering - will look into when we can cancel the contract for the tablet, thank you.

We are looking at 2 bed houses (mostly semi's) as there will only be the two of us living there, but we would like the extra space for computers, separate dressing area, etc. If the bills estimate is a little high then that will be a bonus when we have extra money left, though I prefer to overestimate to ensure we have covered all bases.

Thank you for clarification on TV license and shopping budget - I have amended accordingly. For shopping, 90% of our stuff will be from Aldi. We have done a weekly shop (while my parents were away) on £40 and had extras, so I think £200 is more than reasonable, despite being an amateur cook ;)

Glad you think we have enough spare - we run two cars and do like to go out occasionally so want to make sure we have a little extra. Hopefully put minimum of £100/month into savings for a rainy day.

Thank you for your input
