I get subscribed to stuff all the time because of this, because people type their email address wrongly etc.
I accept that its just one of those things that I have to put up with when getting a free email account.
On the good side - I have been gifted lots of free cloud space because they used my email address and forgot their password - and did not put adequate details into the account for anyone (inc me) to contact them.

It is not well known, but using your name, or any recognisable form of it, in an email address, can lead to identity theft. It is possible to troll the Electoral Roll and match an address to a name, then find other details. This happened to a neighbour, who began receiving loads of spam, then unwanted calls to her phone, even visits from tradespeople offering to work on her house (it's a Sheltered Housing home). Eventually her Credit was compromised, it took me months to help her sort all this out, then I asked her to make up a nonsensical email address with no connection to her name, after which I showed her how to send the new address to all her contacts.
I convinced her to change her password every year too, which is what I do.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

The subscriber may have made a typo error, but I doubt if google did.
Do some experiments, send emails to yourself@googlemail.com, your.self@googlemail.com, yourself@gmail.com, you.r.s.e.lf@gmail.com etc
That's what I was trying to get across, but not very well.
It's the only one of it's kind, so assumed a typo.
I'm pretty familiar with the various combinations,
