I have a Googlemail Email Address

Can someone please tell me if I always have to quote:-

@googlemail.com

Or can I also quote:-

@gmail.com

Would they both get through to me?

    They will both work, I prefer providing @gmail.com for mine - short and sweet. :)

    Use @gmail.com - same inbox.

    Same as username@gmail.com
    user.name@gmail.com
    us.er.name@gmail.com
    us.er.name@googlemail.com

    All end up in the same place.

    us.er.name@googlemail.com

    All end up in the same place.

    Which is great, except I now have three other people using what must be a similar name, and I get emails for all of them!!

    Came across this a couple of days ago when debugging somebody's email problems. Google may think its clever to ignore "." but I know of no other organisations that do the same.

    Only this weekend I've received a confirmation of a subscription to a magazine to one of my Gmail addresses.

    It is my address,but split in 2 by a full stop.

    It's in Spanish and definitely not for me.
    Move along, nothing to see.

    The subscriber may have made a typo error, but I doubt if google did.

    Do some experiments, send emails to yourself@googlemail.com, your.self@googlemail.com, yourself@gmail.com, you.r.s.e.lf@gmail.com etc

    don't forget you can also "+" to a gmail address...

    yourself+"mse"@gmail.com
    your.self+"mse"@gmail.com

    where "mse" = "whatever extension you wish"

    note: when signing up to email lists/sites etc.. only some systems will recognise the "+" as a valid email character...

    Yes, and it's not a way to avoid spammers, since they know about the trick and will simply strip out the +whatever.
