The payment processor (HiPay) is a Belgian company. I assume the Japanese website send you to a local payment processor to reduce the credit card fees.

They accept PayPal who let you pay by credit card in Yen (just choose the correct option to not convert to sterling).

Remember that you'll have to pay Import VAT and a customs handling fee to the courier when the item is imported to the UK, as the value will be above the threshold of £15.

    Probably.

Even if memory cards are duty free and it arrives via RM there's still VAT and RMs handling fee.

So at £61, VAT is £12.20 and the handling fee would be £8.

That in itself is very close to the £81 they charge over here.

If they charge postage you'll be paying VAT on that too.

And of course if there's actually duty to be paid I suspect you'll be paying a few pounds more than £81.

There is the off chance with RM that it slips under the radar but if it's sent via courier you WILL pay tax/any duty and a handling fee (more than RM in all cases IIRC.)

    Hi

I have emailed Yes Asia to check if theres any way around paying 20% UK import taxation when using Yes Asias postal options. Read elsewhere if you pick a cheap delivery method then theres less chance of paying any fees on entry into the UK. Dont know if this is true or not.

They charge in US$ so I dont know if I will get hit with any dodgy fees still. Surely I couldnt as the Clarity Card is not supposed to have any hidden fees.

The problem is that they want protection if the item goes missing.

If they are genuine cards and worth a few £ then they wont want to post it with only £1 worth of insurance. They will lose if it goes missing.

Chinese sellers seem to put $10 or less for everything that i purchase. So no charges.

But a £61 item from Japan?

The Clarity won't, but like I said before, you could get stung with DCC if they're messing with different currencies.

It isn't the card that's the problem. Whatever currency a vendor charges you in, the Clarity card will convert it, charge-free, to GBP.

The problem is only whether the website will make its own charges converting from Yen to some other currency. But they might do this whatever card you used.
