And amongst your Cheery waffle
.. I saw Orkney ! I live there
. Glad you enjoy coming up
Its just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0 -
Ooh, you live in Orkney Mara? Lucky you! :j :j I love it up there
First went up on my own in 2005 I think, and have been up probably 8ish times since then, mostly with Mr Cheery, and often over Christmas
Adore the place
We've been up a few times over Christmas - got half a plan to go again this year :j :j0 -
Not much moneywise to say today...
Nothing gone in the bank, or out. Not left the house so nothing spent (and not likely to leave either).
Had 'ring roofer' on my list - they were meant to come and fix the roof slate the week before Christmas but didn't - I was going to ring today but actually got a phone call this morning to say they were outside :rotfl: Fixed it in 10 mins and drove off - I assume I'll get an invoice in the post!
With that kind of efficiency I might even get them to quote for the other bits of roof that need doing :rotfl:
Bit glum todayFirst day back at work, hormones, IT troubles this morning, and (imaginary) arguments with colleagues this afternoon
Wonder how early I can retire?!0 -
Cheery, thanks for the folding bicycle post - no waffle there, it'd be a big thing to buy, so the more info, the merrier, ta muchly
Didn't realise Bromptons were *quite* that expensive - but they sound really great. Obviously not something to buy without lots of research, but thats a great start, thank you2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

You'd definitely achieve early retirement if you wanted it2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I have plans, don't worry...
We're in a good position with a very cheap life and no mortgage. I have no intention of working past the age Mr Cheery left his main job at - that gives me about 13 years to go. Preferably I'd be out of a 'big' job by 40 (5 more years!! )
I'm not planning to invest a few hundred thousand in the stock market and retire when i get to a couple of million and live off the interest, despite my obsessive reading of Mr Money Mustache over Christmas... :rotfl:
For me it's far more likely to be enough savings to cover emergencies, and some nice, flexible, very part time cheerful work
We'll see
Just had the world's most leisurely bath with a gorgeous Christmassy bath bomb in it and feeling much more at peace with the world :j
New Brompton bag is packed for.tomorrow :j I've cycled up and down the street a few times to check everything is okI have 16 sachets of reduced instant soup for lunches (not just for tomorrow!! :rotfl: ) and a multipack of cereal bars to leave in the office :j
Just need a nice early night and to leave plenty of time to get to the station now!0 -
:hello: evening all
Cheery day here - much cheerier than yesterday!:rotfl:
LOVED cycling to work with my little foldy bike bagGot up at usual time and instead of running round like an idiot and being late I had time for a nice leisurely downhill cycle (er, in the rain  ) to the station - I'd forgotten how much of it was cycle paths :j
Lovely cycle along the river at the other end :j and arrived roughly the same time as I would have done with the bus :j
Jolly day in the office actually getting things ticked off my list :j and a nice productive meeting about new project too :j
Then a lovely cycle in the dark on the path across the common with a chum I accidentally bumped into when I stopped HER accidentally cycling into someone who was bending down to pick his dropped glove off the cattle grid :rotfl:
I'd never cycled over this particular bridge in the dark before (I always used to go along the roads when it was dark) but it was ACE, all lit up with colour changing lights :j Looked utterly glorious :j
I even managed to cycle all the way back UP the hill home from the station, in the same time it would have taken me to get the bus! (and that included messing about at either end with gloves and hats and bike folding etc) :j :j
Just me in tonight, and while I intend to do *something* productive I confess I am already in my dressing gown with the kettle on for a hot water bottle:rotfl:
Out at an event tomorrow - but fortunately it's about 20 minutes walk from my houseVery convenient

Evening chums :hello:
Not much to report. Cycled to work again today, very jolly :j Not spent much on anything other than highly unnecessary chocolate and cakes and spent FAR too much om that already
Just about to meet friend who lives in Australia for tea so might be a reasonably spendy evening, hopefully not too bad.
And tomorrow i'm meeting someone in a place apparently called 'The Chocolate Shop' :rotfl:
Hope you're all jolly0 -
Sounds a nice shop, Cheery
Jolliness ahoy - I'm feeling jolly today, yesthankyouverymuch
