I don't think it is weird either. Ask her and get rid if she doesn't want them. When I bought my first flat I was so poor that I was pleased to find a fridge and two old wardrobes left behind even though they didn't ask first which was naughty. If I hadn't needed them I would have been quite miffed at having to dispose of them.

Remember that with fridges/freezers, wether they are tatty, etc they are classified as hazardous waste with stiff penalties if they are not disposed of correctly.

Maybe this thread title shouldn't read "weird or nice behaviour", but "Got an old fridge-freezer I can't give away"

the OP is 5 days away from moving but only just discovered that the new place has a fridge/freezer. Yet they were thorough enough to specify which items came with the sale of their property.

Come on admit it, you were either planning to sell the fridge freezer or give it away to someone else, for whatever reason you can't now.

You have now discovered that the disposal of fridges & freezers costs money as they have to be disposed off correctly.

So you now want to dress up your own problem as doing someone else a favour.

Wouldn't surprise me that your FF is one of those dodgy Beko models that have a history of catching fire.
Wow, you assume a lot and it's suddenly become a major fire hazard . . .

    The op states:
I might end up leaving stuff for the council to collect from the shared back court (which is normal, acceptable . . .
Which, as the items can be deposed of correctly and for free, makes your whole [STRIKE]rant[/STRIKE] post a bit pointless . .

There is no charge where I live to dispose of fridges or freezers - there is also no charge to have them uplifted

If she doesn't want them, all I have to do is get my removers to carry them downstairs and leave them. Not an insurmountable problem, and no expense involved (as the movers price originally included moving them) I was just trying to be nice. Must be tough to be so cynical.

At this point I shall thank everyone for their replies and bow out of the thread.

Its not weird and its not creepy. Even if it was a woman living on her own why would she think it was creepy? What a world we live in when people who live near to each other (back in the day we called them neighbours) can't call round or drop in a note. Mind you I do live in the north east of England where people still talk to each other.

OP - no dig at you, I think its a nice thought,

Thought I'd follow up on this. I ended up doing neither option. The local housing association collected them, along with wardrobes etc I don't need for the new place. They'll all go to furnishing flats for people on low incomes and just getting their first homes.

So, I a) get to feel good that they will be used, not landfilled and b) didn't have to carry them down 3 floors. Win all round, I say!

And potentially a good tip for anyone else with excess furniture. I was told that they reupholster and repair and refurbish as necessary, so will take stuff charity shops don't.
