Hello

If this is not the best forum would you please move?

We are hoping to have a budget break in St Helier, Jersey for six or seven nights at the end of June to the first week in July.

Ideally close to central bus station (as no car) and bed and breakfast/guest house with twin bedded room would be ideal.

I'll be glad of any recommendations or suggestions.

Does anyone know if it is easy to get to and from Jersey Airport by public transport, please?

Thank you

    Hi.

Jersey, and St Hellier in particular are really easy to get around. Public transport is efficient and very reasonable.

There is a bus from right outside the airport, (can't remember the number but you can google it) it will take you in to liberation station which is the main bus station located on the centre. they run frequently.

You are then only a couple of minutes from all the main shops restaurants ect..
We stayed at the Mayfair hotel. . It was a 10 minute stroll in to the centre. It was ideally located, and we had A really enjoyable short stay there.
We just did b&b, but there was a half board option as well. It had a mainly older clientele, but this suited us fine. We went on an adult break, so didn't want to be surrounded by lots of families.
Hoping to go back again in the future for the 'Tennerfest'

Thanks very much, holidaysforme, that's really helpful and good to know. With no car I'm delighted we'll be able to get about on the bus. I have just requested, on line, a brochure about what is on in Jersey in June/July 2014.

    Thank you, again.

As public transport ( bus) is so good, you buy the tickets in advance and its a set fee per journey ( however far).
I would suggest a hotel a little outside St Hellier. I stayed last year at the Shakespeare Hotel , on the coast , to the east of the town. Very clean and friendly.
  • Thanks, wallbash. That's good to know and good that tickets for the bus can be bought in advance.

Also, I found Jersey one of the cheapest places EVER to hire a car. This is best done in advance and I got a great deal for pick up and return at the airport. You only want a small basic car as you will not spend a lot of time in it and small cars cope better with the roads.
Life is like a box of chocolates - drop it and the soft centres splash everywhere

I know it's a good suggestion, rochja, but neither of us is particularly keen (driving at home's bad enough!) so we'll go for the slow, lazy route and take the bus - but thank you for the suggestion.

Then hire a car in Jersey, when I did hire a car ( brand new Ford Focus, one with the eco engine) I spent most of the week trying to find a section of road to get into at least 4th gear, the only time I managed it , gave a whoop !!! Jersey must have the slowest but nicest drivers in the world.
Trying to get out of a side street, nearly everyone slows down and invites you to pull out.Having spent many many years driving in London , it came a culture shock.
Having said that , stick to the bus, if nothing else will save you looking for parking spaces, which is a pain at many places in high summer.

Last time I was there, I bought a 3 day bus ticket, The details are here.

Depending on your budget, it might be worth checking out Liberty Apartments by Bridgestreet. But to be honest, St Helier has a lot of good standard places to stay. I spent several childhood holidays at The Merton, which is a reasonable walk from the town centre. The last time, I was in Jersey I stayed at The Hampshire, which I found to be just a little too far from town. Next time, I wast to have a night or two at The Dolphin in Gorey, a few nighs in St Helier, and the last few nights at St. Brelades bay.

It's tempting, wallbash, but I'm a wimp and would need brave pills. I'll let my chum know in case she's brave enough!
    Thanks, 'though!

That's great information, Blue264 and I'm really delighted to have the link for the bus tickets.

    Thank you.
