As a self-employed private hire driver, I buy my fuel at Shell, buy food at Tesco, and pay for these and other expenses using an American Express card. This equals to about 20,000 to 30,000 Avios a year, so flights become affordable especially the European Reward Saver ones, even going business class. Haven't been flying much lately, and still got 100,000 Avios to spend!

I have every card going! I have had £100s worth of goods over the years.
Nectar I collect from many sources so adds up quickly, enough for a Samsung SIII for hubby this month, a notebook for my daughter and DVDs for Christmas presents. We get bonus vouchers for Viking Direct etc...
All the coupons are for things we buy anyway.

Tesco is the same, and I only buy what I need.

Boots, not so much but do shop if cheaper than others, same with Superdrug.

I also have one for Holland & Barrett, co-op, , odeon, ikea, Nandos ;) etc...

I do get marketing info on the odd occasion but I can delete that with a click, but I'm not going to say no to any freebie.
It doesn't dictate where I shop but at least will give something back from where I do.
  • Enterprise 1701C Do you know if with the John Lewis card, where you get free cake&coffee once a month, you can get a second one to the same address? I have looked on the site in my account details, but can't find the answer, may be me! Thanks
  • Hello, yes you can, I have one and hubby has one too, hth xx

  • Money pooh joke do you earn extra points on nectar, please? Thanks a lot xx

I find Tesco Clubcard to be good.
While I usually shop at Asda (I get 5% off every time I go), I have used Tesco for the odd bits and certainly their petrol - although I have just understood for Petrol, you get half the amount of points?

I have learnt to maximize my points though... I re-use bags where possible (and sometimes don't) to get extra "green points".

I then convert the vouchers to tokens for magazine subscriptions. Last year I had Gardeners World, this year it's Good Food. Both magazines have given us discounted tickets to the combined show (we wouldn't have gone without discounted tickets) and various other discounts on things throughout the yearly subscription, which is nice.

However a recent change of job may cause me to visit Tesco even more.

If you think tesco is bad, does anyone use Iceland loyalty card. Don't think I've had anything in the whole time I've been using it. I occasionally get a coupon for 25p off something I never buy. It is totally useless, I keep thinking I'm going to stop using this but then the thought of me missing something gets the better of me.

We use tesco card when buying petrol but this isn't money saving as usually tesco petrol is dearer than other places.

Sorry for the late answer. I have heard of people getting second cards to the same address, for their husband or whatever. I have also heard of people suddenly acquiring a "B2 or somesuch after their address and getting one that way :D

I have a Waitrose card which knocks 10% of the price of a variety of items. I am not even sure which items because I buy what I need and not what has the discount, but it always seems to be a few of the items I have selected. A pleasant surprise at the till! I have never had a coffee - I keep meaning to, but I always forget. I frequently get a free newspaper though.

I had a Nectar card once, but I never found it worthwhile. I would never buy a product because it has extra points unless I was intending to buy it anyway.

It reminds me a bit about the thread about the Boots 75% sale. My local Boots was just about deserted on the sale day. It was full of stuff at 75% off. I looked around and found absolutely nothing that I wanted, or that I would use more than one item out of, if it was a set. So I walked away with nothing - and judging by what others posted, I saved myself £100s! I buy a few cosmetic items each year from MAC and yet I spend far less than many people seem to spend in Boots in a week...

I agree with the posters who keep stating that Aldi/Lidl etc are cheaper. You could buy all the things that the clubcard points give you AND MORE by simply shopping around and buying from a cheaper store.

I have a purse full of loyalty cards but the only one I have ever got anything out of is Boots.with Boots parenting club you get 10 points per pound and the more you spend the more vouchers they send you. Whenever I was short on nappies I would compare prices/deals online Asda, Tesco etc but Boots were always cheaper. The vouchers for £5 off a £20 spend were fantastic.
