Loyalty Cards - What's The Point?

Tesco club card has bought Christmas presses, subscriptions, flights, holidays, etc. I personally think it's great.
Get £80 ish every two months, and I always put it to good use, I would really miss it if they didn't exist.
Also had tons from cash back sites, boots card, frequent flyer memberships etc0 -
Loving the Tesco Clubcard references from people thinking it's saving them money.
Even Tesco's institutional shareholders are saying the prices are too high - hence large numbers switching to Aldi and Lidl to save at least 25% on better quality goods.0 -
I do think that loyalty cards are good providing its a place/expense you would make.
I have Nectar, Boots and Superdrug at the moment.
I only use my Nectar card in Sainsburys and occasionally Homebase or others that do Nectar points, and also on petrol at Sainsburys. I don't go into these places often, Sainsburys maybe once a month or whenever they send me money off vouchers (which used to be very good) otherwise I don't really go in there as its quite expensive. I probably have something like £30 which I use at Xmas for my booze.
Boots I use a fair bit, I like their meal deals at lunch which gives me some points, then at Xmas when they do points events (12 worth for £50 spend) is something I do as I buy all the xmas gifts in one go, its an expense I would normally have I just work round getting my gifts on this date. During the year I can amass around £30-£40 points which I use in the sale to treat myself with.
Superdrug isn't used often and the points per £1 are not as good as Boots. I usually check between here and Boots for items and would only buy from here if they were cheaper. As I don't go in that often I probably get about £5 of points during the year, not a great deal but better than nothing.
Don't have club card at all but my sister does:money::rotfl::T0 -

aren't those saying their Tesco clubcard saves them money talking about deals, not food shopping?0 -
I find Nectar points are pretty rubbish. Spend loads and you can get yourself a book that costs 2.99 in the Works anyway. I tend to use the vouchers in sainsburys as I find them quite worthless elsewhere.
Tesco points on the other hand I find good, but I do play the system. I will pick up extra/bonus points on items only where the points x4 covers the cost of the item. I don't use Tesco for normal everyday shopping unless it's bargains (atleast 75% off). This way I don't spend a lot there but get as many 4x points deals as I can. It has been useful.

we have a few loyalty cards but it doesn't dictate where we shop.... the ONLY supermarket we pass on a weekly basis is Tesco...all others we would have to drive 16 miles+ round trip to get to so lessens any savings!.
Tesco clubcard paid for our Christmas presents last year....we do a £40-50 shop a week so don't spend a fortune....and I doubt it would be any lower at any of the cut price shops!! also do bzzagent and a few surveys which pay Tesco points.
boots I used a lot when kids were babies....now it all adds up....I managed to buy my little girl a pack of newborn nappies for her doll using points!! lol
we use morrisons miles for fuel....I think we worked out we get our £5 voucher quicker there than we would at Tesco....either way we have to travel to get fuel because our local Tesco doesn't have a filling stationDooYoo member christy940 (70,000miles),

But even on deals the saving is a tiny fraction of the saving which could be achieved by switching from tesco to Aldi or Lidl.0 -

The advantage is that it provides the retailer with a huge amount of information about what you buy, when you buy it, where you buy it from, what marketing promotions work and which ones don't.
Oh sorry, did you mean an advantage to you. In that case nothing that you couldn't get by shopping around and buying wisely.0 -
our tesco clubcard gets us enough ££ to pay for mrs woodbines contact lenses every 3 months(they were £75 a quarter from high st optician, tescos are half that and with points boost only £20 of clubcard vouchers needed)we also got £75 of our big xmas shop last month for spending x amount for 4 weeks before, and we get regular money off vouchers for things we actually buy0
