Not happy. Just been told that according to the government a couple have to live on £112.00 per week and then she offered me the phone number for the local foodbank. Nice one, eh?

Have you tried the 'Turn2us' site to calculate it for yourself to check this?

If you get DLA, it should be much higher, and even if you don't, that sounds very low.

    Does your husband work?

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

no need to use turn2us site, it's very easy to get the JSA couple allowance figure, as said it's £112.55 a week plus housing benefit and as you say DLA if they get that.

If they get DLA, it's a gateway to other MT benefits, and they would get more.

There's no disability premium within ESA. I seem to remember if you receive DLA and ESA, you don't get a DP within council tax and housing benefits.

I agree it's worth seeing what other benefits they could get, I was just commenting on your suggestion to use that site to calculate it, not should have they can calculate something they don't yet know they are entitled too ;) but by all means they should look into what benefits might be available...I'm thinking not much if not entitled to ESA and already getting DLA but still worth looking into.

Would I be right in saying that some of the posters on this thread are DWP staff ?
I say this because of the regular use of acronyms and abbreviations being used, it is just like receiving a letter from DWP !!
Many people use these forums because they are bewildered by the BS that is contained in correspondence, so could some posters refrain from using the same "language" because not everyone knows all these terms !!
For example "DP benefits" I would assume that is "Direct Payment" but certainly don't know for definite.
And "MT benefits" well I wouldn't know where to start to imagine what that is.............Maternity ? / Mental ? / Medical ? who knows ?
    Simple English Please !!

    PS.
There is another quite well known meaning for DP and the way some claimants feel about what is happening it would probably be appropriate !!

Sorry:o By DP I meant disability premium. MT is means tested. (also known as income based)

You can get extra, if you get medium or higher rate care component of DLA, and have no one claiming Carers Allowance for you, (unless the rules have recently changed). It used to be £29.50 per week, in respect of HB.

Turn2us can be useful for putting in possible circumstances to see what the results may be.

Sorry - they are just terms I am used to and forget other aren't.

MT is means tested benefits, and DP usually means disability premiums (extra money if DLA is in payment).

    I will try to remember.....:)
