I can't believe that nobody has mentioned that it is not lead in a pencil, but a mixture of graphic (carbon) and clay. When the graphite deposit was first found in the Borrowdale area, they thought it was a black version of lead and the name has stuck.
Using actual lead in a pencil would lead to all kinds of problems with lead poisoning...0 -
