Tesco rip off

Hi

Can anyone help? Am I justified to be annoyed and do I have a right to ask Tesco for my money back?

For a while now I have been unhappy with Tesco charging me 2 bills one for homephone and the other for broadband. Especially when they offer new customers a combi package which currently stands with free BroadBand for 12 months (then just £6 a month after that) and Homephone Anytime for £5 a month plus £15.40 line rental thats a total of £20.40 a month (increasing after 12 months obviously to £26.40 assuming no further price hikes) for both BB and Homephone.

Well I have been a long standing customer of Tesco, 9 years infact! And when I first signed up they only offered the homephone then they brough in the BroadBand but refused to combine my bill as they didnt offer the bundle package. Over the past year or so they have now finaly decided to offer the combi package for NEW CUSTOMERS only. I recently complained about this but they simply wernt interested but when I actualy thretened to transfer to Sky (as I already have Sky TV) they offered to combine the 2 bills for me but I said I would think about it and let them know.

Over the past week I have now been doing some research and have discovered that I have been paying ludicrous amount to Tesco for the priveledge of my BroadBand and my Homephone, infact I currently pay Tesco £30 for homephone and £22.50 for Broadband a total of £52.50 a month!! If Tesco were clever enough to have combined my bill when they brought in the bundle deal last year (or even before) I could have saved a whopping £32.10 a month (for 12 months then £26.10 thereafter) Thats not just for 1 year but for the number of years they have offered the bundle package to NEW customers only. Its clearly wrong and their overcharging being unfair to existing customers.

As I am a Sky customer already for my TV I am looking into transfering my Phone and Broadband to them as its half price for a year and still cheaper than what Tesco currently offering new customers! I added it up and I will infact save £35 a month if I go over to Sky!

Thanks :)

Yes you should be annoyed. With yourself for not checking your options sooner. IMO you have no chance of getting any money back as you accepted their pricing by paying the bill.
  • Rightoh thanks :o

As I am a Sky customer already

Pretty much negates your whole beef! You are a customer with Sky and unaware of bundle deals or differential pricing for the same products? Clearly not. Why would Tesco behave any differently?
  • Ok ok so I am clearly in the wrong but at least I asked to find that out. Thanks :)

  • I wouldn't say you were in the wrong - I'd be annoyed too and it's a ludicrous amount to pay. That said, we all have a duty to keep our eyes on the market of whatever we're buying - if Asda was twice the price of Morrisons, we'd all move to Morrisons.

For every utility / insurance policy / anything else it always pays to skim the market once in a while to see if you can get a better deal. :)

You appear to fail to realise companies don't care about your loyalty anymore.

Companies only care about saying how they are better than the others to get new people. I suspect they will never return to rewarding loyal customers as you will always have a core group who auto-renew, continue to pay expensive old contracts or don't realise the price has gone up.
