'Petrol to home' ?. Can we assume that this was a mobile mechanic?.
Was the gas strut for the boot lid?.
Are you sure the labour was just for the strut & not for the whole job including the service?.

    Disabled as in Motability?
  • Just had car repaired, told upfront about service costing £100, petrol to home £52.80., agreed with all of that.

Needed new gas strut mechanic said it would be £48.00, agreed with that too.

    Mechanic said total price £200.80.

Just received the bill, it says supply and fit gas strut to vehicle £48.00, which I had agreed to, but an added extra includes Labour to replace gas strut - £160.00, it took the mechanic 5 minutes to fit it, as it just clips on either end.

Would this be correct and how should I go about dealing with the company?
    Many thanks.

Do you know for sure that it was a gas strut used to keep the boot open, or could it have been a gas strut as in shock absorber?

A shock absorber is far from 2 clips to replace... :)

Err the total bill was £200.80 ?? Not £200.80 over what they already told you?

    £100 + £52.80 + £48 = £200.80 He charged you nothing to fit it.

I wonder what the 'and fit' part of 'Supply and fit gas strut' is meant to mean if it doesn't include labour?

If it truly did take 15 minutes to do then the £160 labour charge would be £640 per hour, which is clearly absurd.

Have you yet phoned the mechanic? Might it simply be an error?

I wouldn't be paying more than the agreed price personally. If the mechanic wants to take me to court for non-payment it would be for a judge to decide.

Phone them and query it. It's most likely, as you suggest, just an admin error by whoever did the invoice.
