Television woes

Afternoon all
I used to be an avid user many moons ago but alas i have forgotten my username and password in my sabbatical. It is with great regret that i come back to these boards first and foremost with a problem.

I purchased a samsung UE40D5520 TV approximately two and a bit years ago so the goods are out of warranty (i can't find the receipt to hand as it is in my pile of receipts). In the last week it has developed a problem where the upper most left part of the screen is dark when the TV is turned on and then intermittently whilst viewing. It is exactly the same as the pictures in the link so it looks to be a problem with this model TV.

As it is out of warranty, is there anything I can do to remedy the situation before i purchase a new one when this one finally gives up the ghost or my partner can't stand the problem anymore and does his nut as he can't play his Xbox.

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

R

[EDIT] - i forgot new users can't post links. If you google Samsung LED UE40D5520 - Dark area on screen problem and click on the first result, it is that thread I am referring to.

I would post in the consumer rights section. You will need to prove it was a fault with the manufacturing to get anything back at this stage, and if you do it will only be a small percentage of the equivalent current cost because it is old.

So, if I were you just forget about it.

Because even they don't make the odd mistake and sell TVs which may develop faults a few years down the line...

No, because they offer 5 year warranties.

  • Tanks. I guess I will have to suck it up and wait it out until it dies properly or it gets so bad he can't play his games anymore. Thanks for your replies and the suggestion about John Lewis.

That's all very well, but how does it stop the TV from failing in the first place?

The thread isn't about the TV failing - it's about a TV failing after a couple of years - do pay attention !

When I said failing, I deliberately didn't give a time line of failure purely because TVs can fail at any time - from the first hour to plugging it in or even 6 years down the line.

My point was that a 5 year warranty or guarantee does not stop the TV failing 5 minutes or 5 years down the line.

If you're going to tell people to pay attention, then at least practice what you preach.

Nothing but it will at least be repaired or replaced without any bother. As it stands the OP has to either suck it up and buy a new one or fight for a repair using the SOGA

It obviously doesn't, were you answering another query?

The OP was recommend to try those places next time as they'd have a much better chance of getting the issue sorted.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
