Iphone 4 Front Camera Problems

Can anyone tell me what would cause photos on my iphone to have a foggy appearance , like as if there's a film of vaseline over the lens?

I have a feeling that the lens is stratched as photos from the back camera also had this appearance but is now perfect as I had to replace the back (managed to crack it d'oh!)

Apart from going to an Apple store, is there is a cheaper way of sorting this out??

usual would be to backup all data first and factory reset .not sure if apple allow you to do that or it has to be done via ITunes .
That should at least clear any firmware errors

JJ - I did a factory reset when both cameras weren't working but the problems persisted.

As I said it was only when I changed the back cover did the problem with the back camera produce decent photos again so the problem there must have been a scratched lens and I wondered if the problem was the same with the front.

The big problem is that it seems that the front cover is harder to change than the back and is more expensive as well to take a gamble on this being the problem.
