Emigrating - what happens to my contract??

Hi all,
I'm emigrating in 6 months, and am currently with Orange.
My current contract is due to end in June, a month before I leave. I was wondering if I could either convert my contract to a pay as you go, to use for when I come to visit, or if I could renegotiate a contract in April, get an upgrade and have some sort of 'payment holiday' until that contract runs out.
I want to keep my same number and also get a new phone - current one is broken!
Thanks!

Your contract doesn't end in June, it reaches the end of it's minimum term, and you are on a 30 day notice contract. If you do nothing, it continues.
Best plan is to get your PAC and port your number out in June to a suitable PAYG provider.
You won't get a payment holiday, nor will you be able to negotiate much until the last month or so of your minimum term.
But I'm baffled as to why you would want a new contract that would be unusable except when you revisit the UK?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Forget about a 'payment holiday'.
And you know, a contract isn't the only way of getting a new phone. There are sim-free and PAYG phones that you can simply buy if and when you need them, not when the contract ends.
Convert it to PAYG. Beware, that if you want to be sure that your PAYG sim remains alive you have to make a chargeable phone calls or send a chargeable text at least once every 180 days. AFAIK, Giffgaff is the only network where incoming calls and/or texts count, so it's probably worth porting your number to Giffgaff.0 -
Just port your number over to a PAYG Sim card to keep your numer. Buy a cheap phone then take out a contract when you go to Australia.0

It's likely the OP won't be able to get a contract as soon as they arrive in Australia (just like an Aussie arriving in the UK, they won't pass a credit check for some time, not until a credit history is established).
Luckily Australia has PAYG as well.====0 -
Thanks everyone!
I'll be discussing with Orange... and where did the idea of Australia come from??

If your emigrating, then converting your contract phone to a pay as you go one should be an easy step, although as posted above you will need to keep the sim alive by making a chargeable event to it every once in a while, or topping it up.
Ive used Vodafone PAYG abroad and while its worked OK to top up abroad you have had to set up a credit card top up whilst in the UK , and then used that card abroad to top up.0
