Would you get a custom size bed?

We want a king-size bed (150cm wide) but not the standard 200cm length due to restricted space in bedroom - we need it to be 190cm, which is the standard length of singles and doubles. We are both 5'6-7" so I think that bed length will be fine even if we are stretched out.

Bentalls department store in Kingston upon Thames have a v good sale and have offered to customize a Relyon Braemar mattress and divan at no extra cost - including four drawers.

We have two quandaries:

1) divans don't have that much storage space, even with 4 drawers, and in many ways we would prefer a frame that you could slide boxes beneath but we need a base that a) has no extra length beyond the mattress at either head or foot, b) can be shortened from 200cm to 190cm and c) is sturdy. That, I believe, leaves us little choice but a divan?

2) Is getting a custom size bed storing up trouble for getting bedding?

Duvets and covers won't be a problem, as they can just overhang a little more, but you are unlikely to get fitted sheets, valance sheets or valances, so would have to make do with flat sheets.

We got a couple of custom sized beds some years ago Bedding can be a bit of a problem but nothing serious we found. Only drawback was having to wait while the beds were made. (No pun intended)
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

10cm isn't that much (about 4") and even a fitted bottom sheet won't be that much too big.

Custom made frames are a tough one, as most are imported so only regular size is available.

You haven't said if you would like metal or wood frame.

All the frames I have ever seen go around the mattress, therefore it will be longer then the mattress.

A company called Friendship Mill make custom sizes. But not sure if they'd be able to do one same size as mattress.

Or you could get a divan on legs, slightly less space under height wise as a frame, but it could be made 6ft3 long by your desired width.

If you want to be able to put stuff underneath, why not buy a King-size pine bed & cut 3'' off the length of each top to bottom 'plank' (or whatever they're called!) before you put it together? You'd still need a custom mattress though.

You'd need to cut the side rails down, which then means more DIY to make them fit onto the footboard. Side rails are normally predrilled with holes for dowels and bolts etc...

Another option if you would like lots of storage is to go for an Ottoman End Opening Divan bed. Like this http://beds.monsterbeds.co.uk/5-King-Size-White-Fabric-Ottoman-/-Storage-Divan-Bed-Base-Foot-End-Opening

Which'll be 2 x 2ft6 beds together which are normally 6ft3 long. Phone around for a supplier called Deep Sleep. I've just come off the phone to the rep and he says they can do it.

Any retailer that deals with Deep Sleep would be able to get hold on it and provide it to the OP.

Or do you mean resale as in, sell it 2nd hand?
