What happens before 2005 PPI?

I have a couple of PPI claims now at the Ombudsman after being rejected by GE Capital Money, now Santander. These storecards were taken out between 1995 and 1998, and I was told by the assistant that I had to take this to guarantee a successful application, and I had to keep it there to keep the card. As a young naive person I was taken in and didn't question it, as she said she opened accounts daily and knew what worked. I have full coverage for sickness, accident and redundancy within my employee benefits.
After being rejected by Santender I went to the Ombudsman, who has basically said that as it was before the 2005 registration there isn't anything they can do. I have written to the Underwriter as advised by the Ombudsman, however I don't hold out hope.
It seems that the very accounts that need looking into for mis selling are blocked due to this 2005 registration and the store card companies know it, and just say no we don't agree and reject the claim.
Can any one shed any light? I've been writing letters back and forth for over 2 years and got nowhere!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

All you can do is wait for a reply from the underwriter, it is/was your only hope.0

Did you send in a ppi questionnaire to the underwriter Genworth as they handle rejected complaints from Santander Cards?0
-
What will likely happen is that the underwriter will get back to you saying that this is not their problem.
You can then take this back to the ombudsman. They will work to see whether the underwriter will take responsibility. A good example of this is Marks and Spencer store cards - where for a lot of sales pre 2005, Alianz (the underwriter) has accepted responsibility.
You should be alive to the fact that in the end, it may be that no one can be brought to account for this.0 -
Apologises for the delay, for some reason I have not been able to get the thread link working, and couldn't find how to log in!
Good afternoon Sun73. No I didn't send a PPI questionnaire into Genworth, I spoke to, then was advised to register a complaint with the Ombudsman who then said that they/I would not get any further writing to Genworth as they were not registered (Like Santander) at the time which was pre 2005. They are still looking into that one. Thank you so much though for that information.
Good afternoon Watchman. Thank you for your advice, the other one that is in progress is against St Andrew. The ombudsman has just rung to say they are writing to St Andrew and I should expect communication from them in due course.
I understand that I may get absolutely nowhere, but I am frustrated that I was financially taken advantage of at a young age.
Sad, but I guess that was my financeial learning curve, it certainly wouldn't have happened now!
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.0 -
I have had success with a store card pre 2005 by complaining to genworth. Fill in a complaint form and send it to them.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Thank you so much Taff, nice to know there is a way forward! Congratulations on your success!0

Hi
Have you heard back from Genworth? I originally wrote to them re my debenhams card and they came back to me saying they'd forwarded in onto Santander, I have today received the same letter as everyone saying I signed for it etc...
Any ideas of what to do next?0 -
If neither Santander nor Genworth will take responsibility for the sale, your complaint is overNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Genworth have just rejected a ppi complaint of mine but said I could refer to FOS even though it was before 2005. I phoned FOS to check and they it was correct, I could send it back with a copy of the rejection letter so FOS can review Genworth's decision.0

Good morning to you all.
Genworth responded saying it was nothing to do with them and referred it back to Santander, who will no doubt send a duplicate letter saying that their initial decision stands and the complaint has not been upheld. I have forwarded Genworths response to the Ombudsman, however I am not hopeful as it was pre 2005. Frustratingly pre 2005 was when all the hard core sell tactics were happening there seems to be no way forward on the mis selling.
When I opened storecards I was quite young and extremely stupid and was guided by the agent selling them who said all these amazing offers, however I was told that I had to have it to get the card and it had to stay on the card for as long as I had the card. Why would I question it from someone who told me they worked for the card company! As such I duplicated all the policies that I had as employee benefits, which I did not pay for and the agent knew about these, and still said I needed to have it.............however even though she said that to me it was still deemed as non advised. As I clearly didn't record the conversation I'm stuck and realistically don't think I have any chance. I wish you every success.0
