Parcel Force Complaint

Hi,
I posted a parcel with Parcel Force to sweden, I asked specifically that it needed to be delivered by xmas day for which I paid a hefty price of £63 for a global priority service.

Christmas day came and no sign of the parcel, many calls later, no further information supplied. Finally the parcel arrived on the 2nd january!!

I have filled in a claim form and received a cheque for £15.

I'm annoyed for few different reasons:
1. I have received no apology for the delay
2. The failed to contact either me or the addressee even though both of our phone numbers were included.
3. They send a cheque without explaining how they have deciced on such amount.

Can anyone help on what my rights are? Ideally I would like a full refund as they failed to provide the service requested.

thanks

What date did you ship it?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

  • It was taken to the post office on 19th december at 9 am.

5 days (including a weekend) during the Christmas post rush, I doubt it'd have got across the country in time. Wasn't 18th the last day for domestic Christmas post last year?

RM also cannot be held accountable for the speed of Swedish post once the package left the UK - next time I'd suggest a fully-tracked courier with one of their 'guaranteed' schemes (which will cost more but you may be able to get away with shorter notice)

You mean like ParcelForce GlobalPriority? ;)

I agree though that it doesn't mention any "guarantee" scheme.

OP - look at the Details page on the above link. It states ...
Proportionate refund if your parcel is delayed

  • I think the point I'm trying to raise is that I took the parcel to the post office and specifically asked it needed to be delivered by Christmas day. The parcel force global priority service was then recommended as the only way to assured delivery by that date, at no point they mentioned that it might/might not arrive on time. Otherwise it would have been my choice to risk it.

    So, posted on the 19th.
Delivery to Sweden depends on where in Sweden, but is quoted as 4-6 business days, and if it's posted from some parts of the UK, one day longer.
    Day 1 = 20th
    Day 2 = 23rd
    Day 3 = 24th
    Day 4 = 27th
    Day 5 = 30th
    Day 6 = 31st
    Day 7 = 2nd Jan

By 19th December you would have no chance of a guarantee for a 3 day delivery, but global priority was probably the best one to try.

    Next year post early.

I don't understand how you think that someone in a UK post office could possibly speak on behalf of the Swedish postal system.
  • I delivered from London to Stockholm.
If there was no chance for the parcel to arrive by xmas why did the post office person recommended that service?
    Their website says 4 days.
Parcel force operates on saturdays too so
    19th. day 1
    20th. day 2
    21st. day 3
    23rd. day 4

Does Saturday not count as a business day for deliveries? If yes then:

    Day 1 = 20th
    Day 2 = 21st
    Day 3 = 23rd
    Day 4 = 24th
    Day 5 = 27th
    Day 6 = 28th
    Day 7 = 30th

Edit: Day 1 is the day AFTER handing to the PO, not the same day.
  • The point is they have failed to provide the service requested. Whether we think it was enough time or not. At the time I was in the post office I had no way to check the parcel force website, so of course I just went with their advice.
I'm over the fact that the parcel was late, but how does a £15 refund compensate for the delay?
