Girl sues CSA

I actually think this is *possibly* a good idea ... My parents divorced when I was about 6, and my father signed an agreement that all of the maintenance he would pay would be 5p a year each to me and my brother. This was (just) in the pre-CSA/Children's Act days. I don't think that parents should get away with not paying for their children after a divorce. I can see the arguments against doing this but if the thought of a child bringing a successful legal action makes non-paying parents think twice and actually pay up then it can only be a good thing ... although if she looses the case then that won't help the issue at all.
I can also see the argument that it's 'materialistic' but at the end of the day, it DOES cost money to bring a child up and parents shouldn't just be able to walk away from this. Children of divorced parents do tend to suffer financial hardship - I accept that children in two-parent families can also experience poverty but to me, it seems different when you have one parent who 'won't' pay for a child, as opposed to two parents who 'can't'. (I don't mean to offend anyone here

My neighbours are minding my kids as I type... I love my neighbours.. .. I rarely have to look after my children0 -
So what about those children who live with both their parents (as in they are still together) and who can't afford those things?
Who do they sue?
or the kids of widowed parents? My mum was left with three youngish kids when my dad died. I never went on school trips and my mum made all my clothes ( which I thought was soooo uncool at the time as I wanted to buy from Topshop like all my mates did)
That said, I hope the girl has some success in her case - if she can get some recompense than maybe others can too - the CSA has let so many PWC's and kids down it should be accountable.0 -
If second hand clothes are a problem then I had better start saving for the law suit now!
My youngest gets all of his brothers hand me downs (apart from shoes) and they both have to put up with being told no now and then.
Has the world gone mad? As a kid growing up, I was bullied (but both my parents are still together today), there were times when it was egg and chips for tea because it was cheap. Schools today have to take every child regardless of whether they pay or not.
Whilst I agree that every parent has a moral and legal obligation to help their child into the world we are becoming a country with too much of a victim culture. Yes life is hard, but welcome to the real worls, if you want something then you have to get off your backside and work for it not neccessarily expect someone else to provide it for you.

sorry but if this is goin to be a slanging match this thread should be in DT.
You seem to be missing the point, the thread should read 'why is society so materialistic'
my mum was a single parent and a damn good one! She worked all the hours god sent. i looked after my sister from the age of 10! call social services quick. I went without loads and nearly everything was second hand. - it taught me to respect property, to be responsible, independant etc. Love, security, attention isn't this what's important.
if everyone the CSA has peed off starts suing where is the compensation money going to come from? isn't our governments resources stretched enough!0 -

Trouble is, that attitude is what's got us into the state we're in already. The CSA behave in the utterly uncivilised fashion that they do precisely because they believe themselves to be untouchable since "it would be a waste of taxpayers money" to pay for court cases and compensation.if everyone the CSA has peed off starts suing where is the compensation money going to come from? isn't our governments resources stretched enough!
The alternative is just to lie back and think of bankruptcy. I didn't, I chased them several times and have received substantial amounts of compensation and I have no qualms about that, or about advising everyone who has been mistreated by the CSA to do the same. The more compensation they have to pay, the better. That way, someone may at last notice what a useless bunch they are.Information is not knowledge.
