    No.

He asked a question, and mistakenly took your incorrect answer to be gospel.

There is nothing pedantic in correcting a wrong answer to a question that has legal and costly implications.

No he asked a question and got a good reply in that he should, in theory, tell his insurer but many who don't claim don't bother. I simply didn't feel the need to patronise him as he is more than capable of working out the consequences for himself. The wording is simply colloqial

    As it happens he:

    1. Appreciated the advice
    2. Is reporting it 'for information only'

So he understood perfectly despite your insistance that he didn't.

So all in all, no need for your brusque posting or criticism.

End of discussion from my side.

N.B Quentin edited his post to add the third line after I hit reply/quote. It adds nothign dear reader but worth pointing out I didn't ignore it.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Now you admit you were being colloquial in answering a legal point. People are warned that anyone can post and to take care. You are upset because your answer was corrected. Why not simply stand corrected and move on.

And perhaps point out when you are answering a question by simply using a colloquial expression when you are really expressing your own opinion and not answering the question at all.

You seem to be suggesting that my edit (which was a typo correction) is some sort of underhand trick?

What is the problem? You clearly did read the whole post before sending your reply!
  • Fivetide's answer was perfectly clear and correct - only an idiot or someone being deliberately difficult would find problem in it.
