Hi all,
I think I made a mistake and I'm hoping someone can point me to the most relevant and up to date advice please!
Back in July last year, while on a hen do, one of the cars was only paid up until 10am and stayed until midday (as far as I understand one of the guy drivers actually left the carpark on time, but then came back for a short while before midday and didn't put any extra on)
I seemed to remember some advice about car parking fines from private companies and when I searched found the advice that these letters will arrive in a predictable pattern, but will eventually go away when ignored.
Last night I had a phonecall from one of the girls saying that she's now received a letter that the case has been referred to court and there is £160 to pay. More searching and it seems that in my initial search I missed the advice to no longer ignore these letters.
What would be the best thing to do at this point in time please?

She needs to read the relevant section in the NEWBIES sticky. It is not clear whether this is a debt collector letter of drivel, or a Letter before Claim for the PPC, or an actual court claim from Northampton, all of which are covered in the various Sticky threads. Even a small claim is defendable of course but what a shame no-one bothered to check the current advice in July!
I do hope you didn't tell her to ignore ParkingEye or Excel or UKCPS? They are litigious. Sorry but I am amazed you/she didn't just read the current advice rather than old stuff from a year or more ago about ignoring. A search of a forum is not enough...always hop to page one! The dates of the advice matters and the current sticky threads are obviously the place to check on any MSE forum board. This is very messy now if it's actual Court papers from a big PPC like ParkingEye.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
