Hi All
I've booked flights to Luxor to go on 18th Jul for 14 nights, looking for good accomodation for 1 room/suite for 2 adults & 2 kids (10 & 7). found medhotels and travelrepublic websites good with Pyramisa Hotel being best option
Any other suggestions for places to try?
Any prom codes for either / both sites ?
Thanks

I have stayed at the Etap, the winter palace, gaddis, emillo and some other hotel that I can't remember, I would nto recommend the emillo, the gaddis was prefectly fine but not luxury, the winter palace was lovely but the etap was my favourite, had some charm about it however there are so many hotels to choose from, places like tthe hilton and the jolly ville are wonderful but a but out of luxor so you have to get taxis into the town
you must make sure that you have air con and a pool, it will be very hot there so you need somewhere to chill so go for the better rated hotels, the morris hotel comes highly rated on tripadvisor and it says its from £22 per night
I would choose your hotel and see what the price would be if you booked direct, Egypt is so cheap that you may find it a better option price wise to do that
have fun, drink lots of water (bottled only), add extra salt to you food, take some dehiration tabs and imodum just in case and you will be fine,0 -
Try Movenpick's resort on Crocodile Island. It is just outside of Luxor. A water taxi will take you to town in about 10 minutes. The resort has it's own little zoo. Very good for families.0

I didn't stay there but I visited and it was paradise, got talking to a woman who was staying and she claimed to be paying just £75 to stay there for a weekI stayed at St Joseph and whilst it's nothing special it served me well. Enjoy

We stayed in the Mercure Etap last year and it was great. The room was in need of a bit of refurbishment but was perfectly adequate for what we needed - aircon, a comfy bed, shower and tv with some funny Egyptian tv ads and good films for when we didn't want to go out!
The pool area and restaurants in the hotel were nice too.
It was also close to everything we needed and anything else was a 50p taxi ride
Have a nice trip, I wish I was going back!!

My favourite is the Sonesta St Georges. Apart from being a great hotel, it has a pontoon at the back of the Hotel ON the Nile. Great for watching the sun go down whilst having a cold beer!http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Africa/Egypt/Muhafazat_Qina/Luxor-2008656/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Luxor-Sonesta_St_George_Hotel_Luxor-BR-1.html0

Stayed at the Mercure Luxor (Formerly The Etap) with our daughter a couple of times when she was small and it was good. Good size swimming pool behind hotel with some shade under trees. Public areas spacious. Nile is the other side of the main Corniche road opposite where a lot of the cruisers tie-up. Luxor temple easy walk. Luxor Museum a bit further. Karnak you will need transport as it is quite a walk with small kids.
Try www.accorhotels.com (the site for Mercure and Sofitel hotels) 2 Kids 12 and under in parents room stay free looks like there is a non-cancel B&B room rate for the time you are going of 36Euros a night (against standard rate of 80Euros) if I have read it correctly.
If you are looking for Hotel by the nile try The Sheraton which is further out of town but has a terrace overlooking the Nile. Good place to watch the sunsets even if you are not staying there.0 -
I like the look of the pyramissa, do they provide towels so i don;t have to pack !0

Brilliant choice of holiday!
I can recommend the Etap (Mercure Coralia) as great for families and it is a good location. Has a good pool for kids too, as there is a shallower end and plenty of warning before it goes deep. Don't confuse it with the Mercure Inn which is clean but tatty.
IMO the Sheraton is a bit out of the way and you have to run a gauntlet of hassle from kids, salesman etc before you reach the main road and the normal Luxor hassle. The pool is awful. They have built a new splash pool but that gets very crowded too. Tripadvisor reviews vary on this hotel - I hated it!
The Movenpick Jolie Ville is rated highly by people who want peace and quiet. I am told the taxis are good value, or you could use the boat service to get into town.
You can compare prices on tripadvisor and don't forget to check if you can book via a cashback site too eg Quidco/ Pigsback. I've booked for Aswan that way.
All the hotels I've seen provide towels and also free toiletries. They have good (cheap) laundry services so you don't have to pay excess baggage now that the airlines are so mean.
Buy your visa at Luxor airport for £10 and you'll get some LEs change. Don't buy through the rip-off reps! Tripadvisor forums are full of good advice.
We're about to go back for the 8th time, so PM if you need to.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
