Go to a charity shop and see if you can get some old cookery books - Delia should have something0

did anyone else ever do the Dougal (magic roundabout) dog with Jaffa cakes? its dead easy - you just stick the Jaffa cakes back together with a bit of jam or icing, then pipe eyes or use white chocolate buttons on the end one, a half glace cherry for a nose. cover the body all over with choc buttercream and fork 'fur' in it, and use a bit of liquorice whip for his tail!0

No one has yet mentioned Chianti, the one in a raffia wrapped bottle, ideal for sticking candles in as well
And bowl of fruit boozy fruit punchEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I think I'm the only one that enjoys Babycham, with a cherry from a jar on a cocktail stick of course.:hello:0

Try and get a copy of The Reader's Digest Cookery Yearbook - published first in 1973 - a charity shop - or maybe even Amazon. (I'v got a copy - but you can't have mine!) Great authentic recipes in there!
Suggestions also include swedish sjmorsbagord - chicken & mushroom vol au vents, don't forget prawn cocktails, chipolata hedgehogs (cocktail sausages stuck in half a grapefruit) melon balls with ginger, marmite whirls (puff pastry, spread with marmite and grated cheese, rolled up like a swiss roll then cut into thin little slices.
And of course - don't forget dates stuffed with cream cheese.
Another one suggesting Mateus Rose - and - height of sophistication - Piesporter (white german wine). Snowballs, cherry brandy, port & lemon or martini & lemonade. Lager & lime or Party Sevens for the boys.0 -
My Mum has a (St Michael - now Marks & Spencer) cook book from the late 70s, and was the bible for our family buffets for many years.
I know you wanted homemade, but we used to have vol au vents with tin of Campbells Condensed Mushroom soup as a filling with a drop of sherry!Cat :wave:0 -

And don't forget cheese and wine parties......loads of French bread cut up with a selection of different cheeses. Also huge bowls of peanuts and crisps. And dare I mention desserts such as Arctic Roll and Angel Delight? One life - your life - live it!0
