  • Cheese fondue was all the rage too!
    31.5/100
  • We did a 70s buffet last year for our village hall 40th anniversary and as well as lots of the other things mentioned, we managed to buy babycham which went down a treat as a naff but nostalgic ice-breaker.

It was greeted by embarrassed laughs but all enjoyed it and my friend started the evening by saying it was awful but somehow kept coming back to top his glass up! It was a really fun addition to the evening.

    Things on halved bridge rolls.
Dip made out of Instant Onion soup powder stirred into cream cheese.
Also Anjou rose, then you used the bottles as candle holders, building up the wax drips...
Talking about drinks, there were a selection of small bottle drinks; Calypso (like babycham with orange juice added) snowballs (advocaat, lime and lemonade) Cherry B and Pony. I don't know what was in them, maybe sherry or port? Oh! and a port and lemon was very popular...:o

  • and pinwheels made by rolling out a rectangle of puff pastry and covering it with sausage meat mixed with sage and onion stuffing and then rolling it up like a swiss roll and cutting into slices and brush egg on the top and bake in the oven I made these for my eldest DDs 10th birthday in 1977 and her friend all loved them.Great for packed lunch boxes as well instead of sausage rolls.I also made a pizza type thing with a large round of shortcrust pastry bakedblind and then topped with cut up sardines and tomato puree.once cooked so the topping was crisp I put it on a plate and decorated with cut up bits of tomatoe and cucumber and sprinkled grated red leicester cheese on top, very colourful as I tucked some green lettuce around the edges as well
  • Scotch eggs and coronation chicken. And don't forget the paper doilies :)

    vol au vonts!!!

watch Abigails Party to get ideas!

I saw that a few years back with Alison Steadman. Loved the play but spent most of the evening looking at all the stage props, they could have come straight out of my parents house! Room divider, black and white crockery, maxi dress....:rotfl:
... and Blue Nun. Blue Nun was about the only drink people drank. Black Tower was special occasions/treats/gifts as it was in a posh bottle.

Also - Asti Spumante if you want fizz

I remember when we used to drink Sauternes with a meal. Now it costs an arm and a leg as a pudding wine. And the schooners of draught sherry at the Berni Inn.
