Word 2007 keeps crashing constantly

Hi Guys
I am running Microsoft Windows Vista, and I have Microsoft Office 2007 installed, literally every single time I boot up Microsoft word, it will load OK initially, then whenever I try and do something within word itself, i.e insert a picture, print a document, it will lock up and freeze and say not responding. Closely followed by a "Microsoft word has stopped working" box. After a few minutes, it will start working again, until such a time when I try and do something, then it crashes again and the cycle continues.
I have ran Microsoft Office diagnostics, and this found nothing.
I have ran virus checks, malware checks, spyware checks - All OK
I have ran windows updates, all went on fine, and nothing which was for MS Office.
It's also worth mentioning that at times, the system seems very slow too, which I do not know if it's due to the Word issue, or whether there's something underlying causing the word problem, I just dunno.
Hoping somebody can help
Thanks in advance
Indie

What anti virus are you running?
What other programs are you running when the crashes happen?
Do they happen with existing documents (if so, what size?)
Do they happen when you start with a blank document?
Is your copy if word legal?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

Open Office?
Apart from that you could use Ccleaner or similar to wipe temporary files and fix issues, then look at your Start Up menu and find programmes that don't need to start up on booting and disable them. Adobe updaters and suchlike can be run as and when.0 -

Avira Anti Virus
No, tends to be with a brand new document, as soon as I insert a picture, or tell it to print, or try and do anything pretty much, it just freezes and "stops working".
Yes
Yes, of course, what do you take me for?Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
And in answer to the other earlier question, nothing else is running at the same time. Nothing at all, which makes it all the more frustrating.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

You haven't got Norton have you?
Just seen you have Avira. What happens if you save a document to the desktop then work on that one. I'm sticking a link below which answers some similar problems.

Rather than inserting a picture, what happens when you just type text?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

Try this (it won't do any harm):
Click on Start>Search>All Files & Folders and type normal.dot into the "Name or Partial Name:" field. (Typing normal.dot will also find normal.dotm in Word 2007 and Word 2010).
Next click on Advanced Options and be sure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are checked, along with Search Hidden Files & Folders.
Also, the "Look In:" field should be set to your main hard drive (usually Local Disk C:) rather than to an individual folder, such as "My Documents."
It's not uncommon to find multiple copies of normal.dot, so wait till the search has finished before deleting anything. When all the files have appeared they can be deleted by left-clicking them and pressing your DELETE key. Alternatively, you can select them and click the toolbar's red X. Or you can right-click them and choose DELETE on the popup menu.
Please note that normal.dot can not be deleted if any Word documents are open. Word must be closed in order to perform this action. After all copies of normal.dot have been purged you can reopen Word, which will go looking for the file. When it isn't found the program will simply recreate it with all of Word's original settings.0 -
Rather than messing around any more, why not do a clean install of Word 2007? Nothing to lose.No free lunch, and no free laptop
