Sky fibre - physical install needed?
[Deleted User]
Ordered Fibre broadband with sky. Got the router in the post and a date (tomorrow). Instructions say just plug in new router and away to go.
Someone told me its not that easy. There is physical work that needs doing to phone socket. Also, pretty sure its not a fiber modem I have but a standard one?
Feeling I'm getting stitched up....

"Someone" is out of date

It used to be you needed an OR engineer visit to activate Fibre - but with the new routers (Sky hub - you'll probably have the black one) you don't. The engineer will activate it remotely so as it says on the tin - Plug in the router and away you go.
Why on earth do you think you're getting "stitched up" the process is stated clearly both on the paperwork and on the sky website. It's hardly Sky's fault "someone" is giving you out of date info !
(Sky hub works for both standard BB and Fibre btw)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Yes as above, the Black Hubs are both ADSL ans VDSL compatable.
My SIL self installed the other month, works a treat 40 Mbps down 10Mbps up.
The good news is whilst BT OR lock down their VDSL modems so you cant see the router statistics Sky do not, so all you have to do to see your link is to log in with the 192.168.0.1 routine. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
They had to change my faceplate. Does that not need to be done anymore?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

It is the neatest solution , but microfilters are cheaper and they don't have to sent a man out.
If you want one you can but the VDSL iPlate here.

Already got a pre-filtered face plate so all good I think.0 -
I had Sky Fibre installed about a year ago. I also had a filtered faceplate but when OR came to install the fibre modem they changed it for a different one.0

Not any more, Some don't. It's part of BT's self install plan (cut down on the openreach engineers work). I much prefer the all in one faceplate though.0 -
So they no longer install the all in one face plate. Glad i signed up 16 Months ago with talk talk very happy with my fibre. And all in one face plate0

Confirmed. Got my own faceplate already but there were microfilters in the box anyway.
Just plugged in and it worked.0
