Some of my wife's friends mocked her for buying a jazz (old persons car etc) - my missus is thinking ahead to children and the amount of space she'll need, but when she took 3 of them with luggage to the airport they were very complimentary of the car then!

I was a bit dubious, her 1.4 felt slow (although i do have a 2.2 diesel civic) but I got to chuck round some lanes a few weeks back and it was fantastic fun, really stuck to the road well.

The civic is big, but not for house moving big, as it's all funny shapes and angles. If you want square lines for boxes, the Jazz and similar shaped cars suit are probably a better fit. Plus the civic feels really wide (you mentioned you want a small car?). I had the civic shape older than the one i have (2008 now) and it feels much wider than it's predecessor...

A colleague had one on loan for a couple of days while his Renault Clio was in for repairs. He gave me a lift in it; it was horrible.

Like being in an even more crap Renault (which is of course what it is).

Won't get one of those then!
I still haven't seen anything I really like. I stand at bus stops assessing everything that goes past and they're all just so dull.

Same as a VW Up or Skoda Citigo.

    Ford C-Max 1.6 TDCi - insurance group 16.
I had a C-Max 2.0 petrol on motability, old shape. It was brilliant, loads of room, went like the clappers (145 PS) Then I had a Focus, which is now coming to the end of my Lease period. I am going back to another C-Max, for the space inside and reliability. I could drop the back row of seats and have a small van. A Load Carrier is available to protect the rear carpets and trim.

The 1.6 TDCi is more economical and not much slower than the 2.0, but I have decided upon the 2.0 TDCi as I have to drive an Automatic due to my disability, and would like the extra power for overtaking when I need it. The Car is based upon a Focus floorpan, so not as long as you might think, the extra room comes from the height. My spinal problems mean that I have trouble getting in and out of a Focus, but I can just sit down at right angles to the seat, then swing into the C-Max without having to physically lift my legs.

    If you don't need a 7-seater, don't go for the C-Max Grand.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Thanks Robisere but I that sounds too big for me. Plus I need economy - including very low insurance.

My latest thoughts are the Hyundai i10 and the Seat Mii.

We had a Note. The 1.6

Spacious, comfy and well equipped with a good view out of it and easy to park with the flat(ish) back.

Downsides - small petrol tank (compromise for the space I suppose)

    - terrible (and I mean terrible) turning circle
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
