Hi

got a kitchen worktop(and kitchen) fitted. Used the suppliers own fitters, altho they did a homer.
Just noticed that there is a chink out of the laminate on the worktop, where the two joins meet, this had been coloured in with glue stuff so I did not see it, when they finished . The glue rubbed off a bit when washing worktop and rubbed the rest off to see chunk.

now obviously they knew about this, that is why they covered it, Only had the kitchen for 4 days and it is quite a sizable chunk right at sink , so will lift.

Anyonee know where i stand,

Take photos NOW and make your complaint in writing NOW. Also check their formal complaint procedure.

Ask them to come back within a timeframe.

Are you sure it's not where they've joined together? Ie, they have a specific little pattern they use (bit like a dog bone shape) that fits two bits of worktop together like a jigsaw? It is a) not v noticeable as they use same coloured filler, and b) alot cheaper than you buying a full piece of worktop so you could have two with the join. Ours is the same, as is my Mums., as was our worktop in our last house (fit new kitchen to sell house, this house we had new tiles and worktops only when we moved in to spruce up a bit) Mine was done by a pro, but friend of the family and he explained this to me, as we paid very little for the worktop in comparison to that of a full piece to fit the size of worktop we have.

Just ask him before you set on the defensive as this could be the reason?

I don't think chippies doing homers will have such a thing!
  • Jemb, no It is a little chunk of laminate that obviously has come off when they have been cutting it.

Just thought it was worth checking as I asked what the gap was when he was doing mine (on mat leave and too much time on my hands when he was here). ive him a bell and ask why he thinks you should be happy with it?

Was this a homer as in it was done through the builders own company rather than the suppliers?

Did you get a receipt which indicates a person/company?

If you answered NO to these, then you will have difficulty proving that:

    a) they carried out the work
    b) have any responsibility over the workmanship.

What may have saved you a couple of hundered £'s may now cost you a lot more, unfortunately.

Edit: To be a bit more positive, you will be able to get a coloured filler that will hide the ding from B&Q and only cost a couple of £
