A documentary called Hungry for Change helped me to eat clean. Got a lot of recipes from Nom Nom Paleo.

Always looked at the ingredients of food label. I ditched the almond milk as it isn't really that clean. Oat milk has less processed ingredients.

    Zoodles are lovely- zuchinni noodles.
    Made cauliflower as "rice"
Chocolate raw vegan mousse- avocado, agave syrup (or maple leaf) and cocoa
Raw vegan carrot cake is quick to make but not that MSE!

Yep I think the rule is 'if it has more than 6 ingredients don't go near it'.

  • I just did my weekly shop, and the girl in Aldi remarked at how healthy it was :rotfl:

I thought I'd post it up here in case it inspires some of you!

It was a grand total of £17 something and it will last me and my mum about a week and a half.

    2618ZFR.jpg
    I bought:
    Sweet potatoes x 3 bags
    Carrots x 1 bag
    Bananas x 1 bunch
    Celery x 1
    Spinach x 1
Long grain brown rice x 1 (mainly for mother)
    Tinned tomatoes x 4
    Salami as a treat
Strawberries x 1 pack (for snacks!)
    Beef mince x 1
    Pork mince x 1
    Mixed peppers x 6 (2 packets of 3)
    Cucumber x 1

And that's it! We also already have some fruit at home, and the greens and some of the fruit gets made into a smoothie each morning (green smoothies are awesome) which is breakfast.

We also already have eggs and frozen chicken at home, and a few bits and bobs.

I'm using the mince to make a huge batch of meatballs tonight which I will have for our tea, and then freeze the rest for LTW purposes. I'm literally just going to be using the mince, the tinned tomatoes, and some herbes and spices for this. Cheaper and more clean than their pre-made meatballs!

The spinach is great for either throwing in smoothies or as a base for salads, or of course cooked into things so that's a great staple to have, along with my beloved sweet potatoes which I have with practically EVERYTHING.

Thanks for that Kitty! I would love to hear about any great recipes that you would be happy to share with us please?
  • Not sure you could call all of these recipes, but some meals I have are:

Baked sweet potato, broccoli and/or green beans + some protein source (chicken, omelette, scrambled egg, salmon are some of my favourites). Obviously you can have whatever veg you like here, and I sometimes add carrots, or what have you, these are just my favourites.

Stir fry of spinach, peppers, green beans, small bits of broccoli, mushroom, whatever veg you fancy really, chicken (I get the precooked bags from aldi for this), and ground ginger and chilli flakes, and a bit of soy sauce (can't say whether soy sauce is really clean or not, but it is blooming delicious in a stir fry). Either with brown rice or... yep, sweet potato :D

Stuffed peppers! I love stuffed peppers and you can make them really clean.

'Pizza wraps' which are a wholegrain wrap, with tomato puree spread on, then just whatever you would put on a pizza. I like onion, olives, red pepper, sweetcorn, cheese, and oregano. This one is great for lunches, and is courtesy of Gemsmaquillage.

Salads! I use spinach but sometimes I like lettuce too. I like:
Moroccan chicken salad: Spinach, tomato, chopped peppers, strawberries, and then other fruit that I have, I especially like raspberries, blueberries, kiwi and pomegranate. I fry up a little bit of chicken (the frozen aldi stuff) in lemon tangine paste and serve it on the above with a drizzle of Udos Choice oil for omega 3! In fact I have that on ALL my salads.

I also like to have feta cheese, olives, cucumber, and tomatoes, maybe some peppers too.

    Tuna is another good one!

I put a sprinkle of mixed herbs, and some chilli flakes in like all my salads with the Udos oil instead of dressing!

Sometimes I add sweetcorn to salads. And sometimes I have avocado salad!

Halloumi cheese is a really good source of protein to add to salads too, low in fat.

Another salad or side dish option is chopped up avocado and tomato, in a bit of olive oil with some herbs.

For slow cooker meals, I like the following, but they don't really have names, as far as I'm aware:

Tinned tomato, tinned kidney beans, mince (optional) and herbs and spices (so a chilli, essentially).

Tinned tomato, mince, peppers, carrots, sweet potato and herbs.

Tinned tomato, mince, onion, carrot, herbs (bolognaise?)

Tinned tomato, chicken, and LOTS of herbs and spices, to make a sort of curry.

All of the above can be bulked out with a bit of extra veg, peas etc.

In terms of breakfast, me and my mum make smoothies from fruit, greens, Udos oil, and maybe yogurt sometimes and that's typically what I have every day. You can add all sorts like spirulina for extra nutrients.

A good option if you're a fan of cereal, and something I used to have a LOT, is oats, banana, and greek yogurt, which can be jazzed up with dried fruit, fresh strawberries, raspberries etc. Really really delicious but I had to stop having it when I realised the oats were the main cause of my IBS :(

If I think of anything else I will post more but my brain has run out of food for now!

Just a point on almond milk, it is really easy to make your own: soak a good handful of almonds in 1 lt water overnight then blend until the almonds have been completely pulverised. Filter in a muslin, the liquid is the milk and you can use the pulp in baking, make almond flour, put in rissoles, dry and eat for breakfast with allowed cereal, these are only a few ideas.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Broke Kitty, thanks for that post! It's given me loads of ideas :) I still haven't pin pointed everything that sets my IBS off but pasta, potatoes and bread do, also some sauces, gravies etc
If I eat a jacket potato within 10 mins I'll be in the bathroom for the rest of the afternoon!

The things I tend to eat ( when I'm being good!) are:

Meat: any fresh, not messed around with, raw chicken, pork, turkey, steaks, lamb steaks etc

Fish: salmon, prawns, tuna steaks, tinned mackerel

Veg/Salad: lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, onions, spring onions, spring greens/savoy cabbage, broccoli, beansprouts, peas.. Sometimes corn and swede and the occasional carrot and parsnip, I'm not 100% these agree with me!

Fruit: not much tbh as it sets my tummy off! Blueberries heated in the microwave for 30 secs then a dribble of cream on and a bit of cinnamon is yummmm! The odd Granny Smith, banana every now and then... Bananas and custard!! :)

And I eat eggs too, rice milk, I've just bought almond milk but not tried it yet, butter..

I'm addicted to mayonnaise and have it with everything, that's going to be hard to give up!

Tea, alcohol and mayo are my main vices, I love chocolate but I like 70% cocoa dark choc so I'll have that :)

So lots of salads, meat and 5 veg, omelettes, stirfrys for me :)

    Hi All :)

I thought i'd share a yummy CE snack that I have made. Basically I buy frozen fruit (Tesco do frozen cherries and blueberries that are much cheaper than fresh) and a tub of value natural yoghurt. Put desired amount of each in a bowl, leave until the fruit has defrosted, and you have instant cherry/blueberry/ (whatever fruit you choose) yoghurt :) Tastes lovely!

Thanks Kitty for those wonderful ideas! Will be trying some of those out for sure!

    Interesting thread:T

For a quick and yummy treat, peel bananas, freeze, then whizz in a blender, add cocoa to taste.

Like lovely banana choc ice cream, but healthier.

That sounds lovely flissh, I bet a bit of almond or hazelnut milk would be nice in that too :)
