New contract law starts today?
Hi. Am I right, believing that from today (23 jan 14) ofcom/law allows u to leave a contract if they rise the price midway through a fixed term contract without penalty/charge? (Only applicable if u get a new contract today not in an existing one).
If so, does that take effect from last night (midnight) or is there a set specific time this comes into force? (Eg 2pm today).
Any info about it would be appreciated.

Would imagine it is for contracts dated today (so midnight last night). Its not bombproof though. The way it works is that you have to cancel within 30 days of the notice of the price increase. I am betting these notifications will start going missing. For example BT recently started charging for services that had always been included and nobody regarded as additional services. They say that everybody had notification or this change which is a blatant lie. There are 2 threads on the home phone forum and i know we never had any notification of price changes. Expect a LOT more of this sort of thing.0

It starts today unless you are an O2 customer.0

O2 are now showing the following notification on their website:
"On your March 2014 Airtime Plan, prices will be adjusted by 2.7% in line with the RPI rate of inflation announced in January.
From 2015, Airtime Plan prices will change every year by the RPI rate of inflation. We'll announce the change in February and it will start from your April bill. "
I believe this is basically what you are agreeing to when you now sign up.
