OS Daily Thread Thursday 23rd January

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Tired again and have a huge cold sore developing on my bottom lip, feels like it's visibly throbbing and of course I can't find the acyclovir cream.

Made a Thai curry last night with some YS beef and some potatoes which needed using up, going in slow cooker this morning so will just need to make some rice when we get home.

Got notification yesterday that our gas DD is going down - hurrah! But our electricity DD is going up - boo! Just about balances but am not sure they have it right and would love to know why we still get estimated meter readings when we have smart meters.

Not much else going on. Will try and catch up with everyone's news later.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

  • Good Morning All.
Gad to report that i got a good nights sleep for a change, think it had something to do with the amount of pain killers i took yesterday for my ear (which also seems a bit better today).
Had fish and chips from the local chip shop last night as i was feeling too poorly to cook. So tonight i will make a huge pot of soup and some fresh rolls to go with it.
DD has decided to dye her hair back to brown again as in her words "i just cant be bothered with it now" so result for us as this should stop all the drama.
Things have been getting me down at work lately, but i have decided that lifes too short and if they dont like my way of working then they can all "go do one" (as my DD would say lol.
Have loads to catch up on at home today when i get back on my break , but will work my way though the list slowley and not push myself ( dont want to overdo it just cause im feeling a bit better).
Need to spend some time with the boys (dogs) today as last night they sat whinning cause i had been not been playing with them as i usually do (again due to bad ear).
Had a really nice text from my veg lady who i made bread for on tue. Asking me if i wouldnt mind making her a loaf every week as its the best bread she has had in a long time (head sweeling with pride and smoothing down my feathers lol) so looks like on a tue i will have double to bake.
Oh well suppose i had better shake those feathers and start work.
Hugs to all who need them xx
    Bright Blessings xx

    Morning all
Rubbish night last night. First one in a week with no sleeping tablet (on advice from doc). Think I got couple hours :( and for someone who usually likes about 9 hours it's bugging me. Never mind onwards and upwards.
Plans for today include seeing my sister and niece :) some washing and then taking it easy.
Another NSD I hope (always a positive of feeling too unwell to go out )
TTFTM - hoping things improve x
Hope everyone has a great day x

    Morning :)

Thank you for all the supportive messages yesterday :)

I did feel like very stressed yesterday morning, but I went to a friends for the day, had a natter and lunch. And came home feeling better for it. Last night I watched Barbie Princess DVD with DD's and just enjoyed the day. I also managed to write and post DD1s thank you cards for her birthday gifts, and do an adjusted meal plan for while DH will be away for the big trip, which makes me feel more in control again :)

So today... The bread I made yesterday will now fill my freezer up, so 2 more loaves needed today for eating :) I need to do the washing a day early (for DH to get his stuff packed tomorrow) and I'm going to try food shopping this morning.

Dinner is leftover chilli from the freezer.

Lunch for DD1 is cheesy pasta and for me Pea and Ham Soup, both from the freezer :)

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning all,

Still dark here so cant see what the weather is doing yet. Yesterday I went through all my clothes that have been in those big laundry bags and had a good sort out two bags have gone to the CS and I bought a load of things down to wash and freshen up. I have now got the rest hanging up and organised ( into work stuff, casual and going out ) in my wardrobe :D. I also for the first time ever have enough room to store my shoes !! I am very excited about the extra storage space.

Off to work for me, dd stayed at a friends so I will see her later at some point. Dinner will be something with chips will go and have a look.

Shopping coming tonight, Asda delivering for a change, I like to swap between them, because they then send you vouchers if you disappear for a while. Need to do another wash tonight too.

    Have good days all xx

Please be easy on yourselves and enjoy the babies. I could run and organise parts for a moving assembly line, manage a department of over 50 stroppy fellas, but went back to work for a rest when DS was 6 months! I was lucky I had neighbours each side, who loved to have him for an hour to play, talk to and cuddle him. If not everything waited until he had a nap when I did some essentials and had a coffee, or until DH came home. I can remember one day, I just handed him to DH, and went for a walk around the cul-de-sac, I just needed to "be alone". Loved him dearly, but . . . . It is hard.

HH. Go to your line Manager and say, I have been told. It to lift and carry, if you don't sort it out I will run out of paper, the Dr. Has stressed I must not do it. Why do these folk pretend they are managers when they clearly cannot manage their way out if a paper bag. Both you and Molly. Need to remember the word NO. Lovely to see you posting Molly. ((Hugs)).

Had a couple of lazyish days. Ate out Mon & Tues. :o did cook as such yesterday, but the mash and veg was from previous days LO's and just had to grill some thin pork steaks. :D did manage to get the tennis on Monday via the PC, but it wouldn't allow me yesterday, so just had to watch the result as it happened, shame Murray is out. The Semi's and the Final should be on at more realistic times, so may have to find a bar to go and watch them in :o.
WM is on at the moment! we have a nice day forecast! as not easy to dry washing here, so wait for good days! and one I get up early enough:eek::eek::rotfl:
Going out for a Meal tonight with one of our French neighbours, who has found he says is a nice restaurant a little along the coast, so we will go and try it and find out where it is ;). Will have to be good for a while :eek::rotfl::T:beer:
LWW doesn't dying your hair brown after blonde end up with green hair???????

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Now light, sky looks quite clear and it looks to be drying up a bit underfoot.

DH up and gone to work. Boys gone to respective school and college.

Dinner last night was the beef wellington, new potatoes, carrots, broccolli, green beans, peas and gravy. Was a nice change although I'm glad I didn't pay full price for the beef, menfolk all had a slice of Victoria sponge for dessert. Tonight will be something with chicken, remembered to get it out last night to defrost but didn't realise until after it had started to defrost that I'd got out 1 x packet of chicken breasts and 1 x packet of chicken thighs - so I'll probably just make a pot of gravy, with onions and mushrooms and cook it like a casserole for an hour in the oven and serve it with mash and veg.

Was reasonably productive yesterday afternoon after I got home from work, did the few Wednesday jobs that I need to do, also have found somewhere locally to get the boys xbox looked at - so hopefully it can be mended - he did say the particular fault we are experiencing is quite common. Have a few other chores to do today - but mainly need to crack on with the washing, drying and ironing, and housework as I'm working Saturday and then going straight to a caravan event when I get home Saturday afternoon, so its going to be a busy Saturday! I'm thinking I may prep a slow cooker casserole for Saturday evening - I can get it going on Saturday morning before I go to work and then it will be ready for whatever time we want to eat when we get back and also we won't get tempted into an expensive takeaway. Sunday will be a lazy day - I may just do a nice roast and we can all chill, before the start of another week!

I'm just going to plod along and get as much done today as I possibly can, I have quite a pile of dried washing that is going to need ironing, I've sent up the airer and have been getting everything dry on that. I'm hoping to get away with not using the TD so much as I've just had my electric bill! I've been putting WM on in the evening, emptying it straight onto airer and leaving it overnight and next morning it's virtually all been dry.

Will be checking the finances again at some point today - waiting for some money to arrive for expenses that I can then use to pay some last bits off with - once this arrives I'll have a better idea of where we are exactly. Pay day tomorrow for me too, it's been a long month!

Friend and her son came over after school for coffee and cake - her life is in turmoil at the moment but she's been very pro-active in trying to get everything sorted out - but it seems her home life has settled after a momentous decision between her and her DH. Hoping very much for them and more so for their son that they can pull together and get back on track both emotionally, and financially. I'm trying not to get involved too much and just offer the shoulder to lean on and coffee and cake when needed!

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

there is 3 1/2 lbs less of me than last week: "nature" being a bit slow etc meant that if I climbed on the weigh-in scales this morning .... well, I'll just stop moaning. DH lost 10 lbs. Yes, 10. I am still speaking to him :p

I am exam marking again, and there should be a lot of papers arriving today. The delivery used to be first thing in the morning, but it could be anytime of day now, which must be hard on those who work fulltime. There is such a small window to do the marking in.

Cold and grey here, so I've got a big jumper and thick socks on and will jump round the house with the hoover if I can't get out.

Stay warm and have fun x
