Hope no-one is affected by the floods.

Giger - hasn't duckypoos got so tall.
Breeder swapped Feathers no problem. DH has morehensdisease, he came back with 2 more chickens both 14 weeks old, a copper black maran and a new hampshire red. They got a pecked a bit when we put them in the garden to run about by the other 3 hens so they are in spending a night in a coop a friend had rescued from a skip. We also had to divide the run to separate the new hens from the old ones. Does anyone know how long before I can let them mix? Had to improvise feeders and drinkers. The maran thinks my flower pot is a bath instead of a drinker.

Lovely looking girls Happymum. We usually find about a week is long enough to keep newbies separate. Once they integrate, there is the inevitable pecking and occasional fistycuffs to sort out the pecking order, but it's usually only a bit.

Your copper maran should give you lovely dark brown eggs once she gets laying. :)

I hope he isn't a boy Heather after your long wait. Has anything happened with the other egg?

Just the one chick Iona, she rolled the others out from under her. But it is one more than I really expected so I'm happy, very happy :) He is doing well and she seems to be taking great care of him, just gives him a bit of a peck when he plays his favorite game of hanging off her ear lobes. Maybe that is why I think he is a boy?

Happymum, your girls are stunners! Poor OH, sounds like he has a bad bout of morehensdisease :rotfl: Sounds like Shortie's OH has it too :D My Dad's neighbour had to bring her bantams and her orps into the house because of the flood risk. She lost some in a flood a few years ago so now brings them in if there is a risk.

Giger, how are Petal and her chicks this morning? I cannot believe how big duckypoos has grown, have the adult ducks checked him out yet? I know you told us before but I cannot find your post, so would you mind telling me again what breed his foster mum is? She is a beauty! Love the chicks running away from the lettuce :rotfl:

Daisy, how did you get on with the radio?

Jon, that vid your neighbour made is lovely. Time to get some more girls? You know you want to :)

MY gorgeous girl!! In one photo she was rolling upside down in dirt bath she scratched out.
Day 3 of worming and no sign of the neck stretching she was doing. No eggs yet/ever maybe, but I dont care! She is awaiting a friend, just need to get appt to go pick the one I want,am very excited! So love my morning chats with her, just need to get the family calling her one name! Younger kids call her Hetty my daughter calls her princess Hetty, I call her gorgeous girl, son calls her Brian, hubby is a little awkward around animals and doesnt believe in talking ' to them, he takes the mick at me talking to her nad our bunnies, although earlier I caught him showing her, worms/bugs under a pile of logs he was moving, he was saying, 'here, get it, good girl ' ;/ sure thats him talking to her??? HAHA

Lovely pics and video Kirsty and Syman

I think that is classed as talking too Kirsty. My OH had Digger out yesterday when he was raking the lawn area that is to be seeded. It took him twice as long because Digger kept finding bugs and was nearly sat on the rake in case she missed any.

Heather, that pic makes me all gooey! Oh, and Duckypoos' mum is an araucana/pekin.

Kirsty, please get two not one chickens. An extra one won't eat much more food and if one dies, you won't be left with a lonely chicken.

I'm loving all the pics and videos, keep 'em coming!

It's been fun and games here. The mums have been leaving the chicks to their own devices and even Duckypoos' mum decided to go and sleep in the main coop last night. Poor Duckypoos was all on his own in his coop, calling for mum. She got pulled out of the main coop and put back in with him!

    More videos uploaded on YouTube.

You know, we weren't planning on hatching chicks, but I'm so glad that we did. It's been a wonderful experience.
