Oh Giger the clips have cheered me up no end. I had a look at some of your others too. It was so sad yesterday reading about all the lost and poorly hens.
Your breakfast clip cleared something up for me as well. OH is a devil for buying things he thnks might be useful for something and last year he bought( in the agricultural shop) the metal spring thing you have on your blue feeder. So I now know what is should do. Not sure where ours went in the end.:rotfl:
The pool from Tesco is great. We had a flyer this weekend with the ad for them and I have it on my desk. OH would love some ducks. What do you put in the house for them? Do they need closing up at night?0 -
Syman sorry to hear about cabbage and flower
Ljonski – hope chucky is doing ok
HeatherintheHills hope your sick chicken is doing better
Tygermoth sorry to hear about your poor wee chicks. Hope your other chicks hatch ok.
Gigervamp your ducks look lovely. I love the way they walk, they put a smile on my face just watching them. The chicks are so adorable too.
Our chicks arrived on Saturday, just a little younger (7weeks) than what we were expecting. They are just lovely. I can’t believe how friendly they are already. They seem to watch us as much as we watch them. We all just love their little noises. They escaped on us on Sunday evening as we had to open the run up to try and catch them and put them in their coop. They are just so fast, DH was nearly in hysterics watching me trying to catch them round the garden. Thankfully this evening they figured out how to get in the coop themselves – so no more chicken chasing. The children have named them – the Rhode Island red – Chocolate; light sussex – Snowy; buff sussex – Feathers; and the barnvelder – Blue (that’s what happens when you let a 3year old name a hen – we were expecting him to name his hen lightning McQueen). We are hope that we only have hens, at what age do cockerals start to crow? Blue may seems to be the dominant bird and always first to do everything, but definitely not the biggest bird.
Here are some photos

They have woodchip bedding, the same as in the chicken coops. We do lock them up, just incase there are any predators about. They actually went in their house on their own last night as it was peeing down, so that was a relief!
Yesterday I found that she'd laid in amongst the weeds, but today she laid in the house before I let them out, so we have 2 duck eggs. I'm thinking they're destined to become a sponge cake as duck eggs are supposed to be the best for baking.
Happymum, lovely pics! Our araucanas were about the same age when we got them. It was the tail feathers rather than the crowing that warned me that they were nearly all boys (5 out of 6!) as they started getting longer. Also, Sweetpea was smaller than the boys. I *think* they were about 14-16 weeks old when they started crowing. It was more of a gurgle to start with though. :rotfl:0 -
Thanks very much for everybodys concern over Chucky.
She 's really improved and although now a lady of mature years, she's now just about keeping up with Stoogy in the race for the maggots..
There is a battery hen rehoming event on the 19th near me also, so im considering getting 2 more .
Thanks again

Thats one way of getting rid of unwanted cockerals? or is it a she?
Lovely bird though.0 -
You would think someone would notice a chicken being smuggled into a football ground?
Beautiful bird. The goal keeper seemed to know how to handle a hen, impressive!0 -
I don't blinking believe this, another ex battie looking not so good. her crop seems fine as does her lady-bits. Let them all out to FR and she is just stood there. Have brought her into the 'hospital cage' and given her yoghurt/olive oil mixture and mealworms.
Hope it's just an off dayMortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Another video. Petal and her chicks. You get to see both chicks in this one.0
