Gigervamp- glad to hear that Sebastian is back with the girls:AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0

Haha, he wasn't too happy this morning when Belle managed to evade his amorous advances!0

Sebastian must be feeling better then!
Watch out Belle! He's back
I think 2 of my girls are starting to moult. Lots of feathers around and some soft shelled eggs over the last couple of days.
Or it might be that they are upset at finding my cheeky small cat curled up asleep in their newly cleaned and re-strawed nesting box.My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Gigervamp- lol that the hens are playing hard to get . Poor Sebastian "hope" can be a dangerous thing;)
Racyred- I think my hens would have turned the cat in to a nightdress case:eek::AToo fat to be Felicity Kendal , but aim for a bit more of the good life :A0 -
Hello again,
Another question for you!
I have been offered three chickens free of charge, they are at a friends farm which is near where I work.... The issue is getting them home!
I drive, but it's about two and half hours, maybe a little more if traffic really bad. Is this too far to travel with them in a well ventilated box?
I don't want to cause them distress.
Thanks again

I haven't travelled with hens quite so far but once they get in a darkish box, they will settle down. Keep an eye on how hot or cold they get.0 -

You should be fine (line the box with a thick layer of newspaper for the droppings)
When you get them home they may well run for the bed area and possibly stay there for a day or so (just until they get used to their new surroundings). They do like to adjust in their own time (not in our time of excitement:D )
How exciting for you!!!!0 -
Many years ago, I was offered 3 banties by a friend of a friend etc. who lived a considerable distance away. In those days my transport was a motorbike and I arranged to collect them after I had finished my evening shift at college. They were incarcerated in a large cardboard box which I had strapped to my carrier after poking a few small holes in the sides for ventilation purposes. I got a few strange looks from motorists and pedestrians when I pulled up at traffic lights and a beak, followed by a comb popped out of a hole in the side of the box and went back in again when I pulled away.
I reckoned that they were making notes of the route so that they could navigate their way home.
They suffered no ill effects from an hours journey on the bike and settled down in a day or two.0 -

Ooooh!!!
The hens seem to think the cats are for playing with and the cats think the hens are great fun. So far the the nesting box snoozer has been the biggest problem.
One chook is seriously eyeing up the assorted seeds and insects my long-haired tom accumulates when he has just got back from a wander through the fields. Could be interesting!
Steady_Eddie, I'd have loved to have seen that :rotfl::rotfl:My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead
