Smileyt- I hope that someone is able to help you. I wished that I was in a position to do so:( Mine are not carriers and to keep one alone in a separate coop away from them would not be fair on her as she is used to company. My heart goes out to you x

Can anyone help you on the "down the lane" website?

I do hope you can find someone to take her. I think you are very sensible and brave looking now. I'm sure it will be a big wrench for you.

I will, Chickenopolis. I've put an amended copy of my original post on 'down the lane', the ex-batts forum, the omlet forum and the poultry keepers' forum, plus I will put a note in the vet's surgery. I have to take Hepzibah back this evening so I will do it then.

Now I just have to pray that some kind person will come forward. I have done as much as I can.

My original intention was to replace my hens on a rolling basis so that I would always have three hens clucking happily away, but the evil that is Marek's disease has put paid to that :( If I had the money I wouldn't mind, well it would still be awful to have poorly chooks but at least I could afford to care for them. :(

smileyt- I really hope you get a positive response as you have done all that you can x. I might sound stupid , but what about another non hen companion . Like a rabbit or guinea pig? Never tried this myself with small critters but I know that some horses are quite fond of goats as stable companions.

However I understand that this would incur more expense for you .

Good luck though smileyt I hope Hepzibah hen is on the mend?

Hi, have only posted once before but have been reading all the posts and soaking up the wisdom!

But I just had to come on and shout - WE HAVE OUR FIRST EGG!!!!

We have had the girls for almost 4 weeks and were starting to despair or ever seeing any results, but then a few days ago Winnie's comb went bright red and yesterday she produced a small but beautiful little egg.

Hopefully the other three will follow suit soon, but I'm so proud of my girl right now!

ETA SmileyT I really feel for you, you clearly just want to do the best for your girls and I do hope you can find someone to help.
Oh dear, here we go again.

Hi jennyjelly........oooooh Thats great, I remember our first egg. OH and I shared it. It tasted all the better for being 'home grown' Hopefully the others will lay soon. One of mine was a good 4 weeks after the other two.

Give her an extra treat, she deserves it.

I'm sure my 3 benefit from OH's pyramidial hen house design . It has brought my oldest girl (from my original 3) out of retirement and she lays 4/5 eggs a week now.
