Thanks Spirit. It looks like there's one near me, but I won't be able to take on any more girls atm as I don't have room in the coops until I've rehomed the boy chicks.
I'll keep an out out for the next rehoming though.0 -
I just looked on there and a full list of collection points has now been posted. Hens are available from all collection points.
They have an extra 300 girls to rehome after another charity had to back out :eek:My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Sorry to post this all over the place, but I do think its a emergency
Hi Everyone
Fresh Start is doing a rescue this Sat 30th July, and another rescue was supposed to follow and take the rest of the hens. For some reason, they can't and that leaves 300 girls desperately needing homes ASAP.
Can you help? If so, please contact Fresh Start for Hens.

morning all.... I haven't posted for ages, but the three chooks have settled in nicely (arrived at Mambury towers 1st june) and one have started laying nicely (very cute teeny little eggs) and one who I thought was Daisy has turned out to be an Ernie.....
Still, he is a lovely big boy!
I have also succumbed to a request from BHWT and rehomed 4 ex batts yesterday, poor little things are oven ready and totally bemused by everything.
Oh, and the kids have managed to pursuade me (it didn't take much!) to hatch some eggs, so I have 5 RIR eggs and 4 Australorp eggs in the incy waiting to hatch in about 10 days:j
I do have a quick question though, three of the batts are very timid but one is quite aggressive and has tried to peck me a few times already. I know she is pretty freaked out at the moment but I wondered if anyone has experience of this, how long it should take to settle down and if there is anything I can do to help her calm down....
Once it stops raining I will get the camera out, I promise.....

Hi, mambury, I had a rescue hen who was the same. I eventually put her in solitary confinement for a few days, in our back porch. She is the tamest of the hens now and is quite embarrassing. Last week when it was raining she was pecking on the French doors of our holiday let to be let in by the guests.
I think I kept her in only a week.
My girls are still providing me with no eggs, except broken eggs so \i am giving them only layer pellets for now to help strengthen the egg shells.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Or you can cook them in the microwave......it doesn't have such a bad smell then and its quicker.
My hens are eating lots of small snails with shells. I think they have been watching the blackbirds as they bash the snails about a bit eating them.0 -
Has anyone read this article? It's quite amusing - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2021238/Thinking-keeping-hens-garden-Heres-chicken-out.html
Is it as bad as she makes out?0 -
I think my little Sebastian has a cold.
He's been sneezing all morning. His chest/breathing is ok though and his poo is normal, so I've isolated him in his run and put some cider vinegar in his water.0
