Hey.... Lets keep Chickens..!

You do realise, that once you get whatever chickens, you'll want more?
So true. I got my four at the end of July, and I hear there is a local rescue coming up around the end of March... I'm sure I could accommodate another four.... but then I think I need to have a word with myself insteadTwice the feed costs... twice the poo... but perhaps twice the eggs which I'm sure I could sell on without too much bother...
I believe one of my colleagues is planning on getting some from that rescue though, so that's good news0 -
after some advice
my pekin rooster is coughing and sounds snuffly. he has no discharge coming from mouth/nose or eyes. he is eating and drinking and when we took him to the vets she said his crop was full. the vet put him on baytril is there anything else I can do to help him?
he isnt going up to roost with my other chooks I usually find him in the corner on his own. tonight i picked him up and put him in a nest box. He had his 3rd dose of antibiotics tonight and he did fight back when i tried to give it via a syringe in his beak so thought it was a good sign from yesterday when we had no trouble getting it in him.
any advice gratefully recieved.0 -
Check in the morning that his crop is empty. I've just lost one of my lovely silkies due to sour crop and I'd hate the same thing happening to you.
I can't offer any other advice I'm afraid. Good luck.0 -
thanks I checked for sour crop this morning, he has no bad breath and his crop didnt feel like a balloon or full this morning. But was first time I have checked a crop so will check it tonight as well to see what a full one feels like.
I have just given him the antibiotics and he is eating some corn in the run (sounds like he is moaning to himself) his wattle is looking pinker it was looking slightly purple the day we took him to the vets.0 -
When the crop's full, it kind of feels like one of those wheat bags. You can feel the grains of corn etc under the skin.
I think the only thing you can do is carry on giving him the Baytril until the course is finished and keep an eye on him.
He sounds like he's feeling sorry for himself, poor thing.0 -
I lost him today he was doing so well yesterday and looked so much better.0
