Viewings with Pets?

It's not a problem with current weather conditions but keep an eye out when putting pets in cars just in case the temp is too high/cold.
When I sold I had my dog on a lead in the garden so the viewers could still go out without being licked to death.
The best solution I saw when viewing a 'cat' house was the owner had put her cats in some sort of pen.. maybe a puppy crate with blankets etc so they were comfy and left them in a room.. we were told they were there. You could put them in there cat baskets if they are happy in them and leave them in a room.
Definitely clean/move the litter tray as a non cat owner i find cat trays quite unpleasant but again it wouldn't put me off a property I liked.0 -
I'm a cat owner, although I only have one, and have never found anybody put off by the fact that I have a cat. His litter tray has always been kept in a cupboard that he can access & I always explain this to viewers before they take a peek in the particular cupboard.
Many of the viewers I've had during my various property sales over the years have actually been happy to find that a cat has resided in the house as it has meant that a cat flap has already been installed, meaning they didn't have to bother. Some already had a cat, others wanted to get one as soon as they had settled in.
Usually my cat has been curled up on the bed when viewings have occurred & he has just opened one eye to peek at the intruders & then settled down to continue his nap.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I did think about putting them in their carrier; however they are not overly fond of going in them and wouldn't want to stress them out every time someone comes to view.
I think I might just shut them in an upstairs room, show the viewers the rest of the house, and then move the cats out of the final room before the viewers go in there. I suppose as long as I warn them that I have cats then it should be fine.
I am planning on doing the viewings myself as I don't trust an estate agent to make sure my cats do not escape (especially after reading a previous post!) so hopefully this will work ok.
Thanks everyone.0 -
For any other exotic pet, e.g. lizards in glass box, make sure you pet is in the box! I once went to a house and saw such box and immediately assumed it was snake (and EA assumed the same too as she was first time in that house) and we both ran away without finishing the viewing.
Why would a snake in a tank make you run away? It won't come with the house!
When we viewed the house we bought the owners' small dog was roaming around the ground floor but they tried to keep him away from us, didn't put us off one bit, although when we did move it it became clear one of the rooms had a distinct 'dog' smell which took a while to shift0 -
Bring on the attack cats, wolfhounds and semi-wild geese; I've had them all and they didn't scare me one bit (OK then, a little!)
But for goodness sake give your teenagers some dosh and send them off the premises. A cold stare from a surly 14 year old who doesn't want to move can kill (enthusiasm) at 10 paces. :eek:0 -
I'm not an animal lover, but I don't mind cats being around when I view houses. (I've never bought, but I've moved around a bit and looked at quite a few rentals).
My experience has taught me only one thing about cats: if your cat is grey, and your stair carpet is grey, then don't let your cat sleep on its favourite step during the viewing.0 -
We moving in a week to house which owner had a dog but before we came into the house she did say she was putting the dog in the garden so we could view without it jumping up..and we viewed the garden and outbuildings she popped it in the house so again we could view ok..0

Bit of a warning. Please be aware that some people (including me) are allergic to cat hairs so whilst being able to cope if the cats aren't in the house putting the cat(s) in one room may trigger a reaction once that room is opened.0

Yes, fully agree. We have a house teenager and I put him out on the street every time we had a viewing. Hopefully the viewers didn't see a lone hoodie loitering on the street corner trying to catch a glimpse of who might buy the house. :rotfl:Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

We knew our house was likely to sell quickly so went on holiday for a week and the cat went to her holiday home. When it went back on the market after a sale fell through we had 7 viewings in one day and 4 the next so back to the cattery she went. Meant that there weren't flies on her food and the litter tray was away. Expensive, but if you have a cat who sh**s on floors when she gets scared its worth it!0
