Re-signing with Sky

Hi, I was recently contacted by sky and pursuaded to re sign my sky broadband and talk package for 12 months. 3 days later I changed my mind and rang back to cancel but was told that I could not. I mentioned the 7 day distance selling regulations but was told they dont count as I was re-signing an existing product rather than buying a new one.
Does anyone know if this is the case or were sky pulling the wool over my eyes?
I actually want sky tv but want to have the option of cancelling for some negotiating power.
Thanks.

That is correct, I believe.0 -
Correct-no cooling off period on a contract extension. You've simply agred a new minimum term, not a new contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Why would you agree to extending the contract minimum term? Why? I just dont get it. Your minimum term was up, you could have just carried on as before (but now you have the option to cancel at any time with 30 days notice). BUT you said 'Yes, i will be tied in for another 12 months, No problem'.0

Presumably they offered a deal in return for entering a new 12 month extension.
{Which seemed a good idea at the time - they don't "force" you to agree a 12 month extension!}0 -
At the end of my first 12 month contract I was offered free unlimited broadband if I signed up for another 12 months. Presumably they would have offered OP something similar?0

That is exactly why i made the comment. The OPs original post doesnt specify any deal which is why i wonder why anyone would just actually commit to another 12 months.
"I actually want sky tv but want to have the option of cancelling for some negotiating power." This bit makes me think the OP didnt get any type of deal out of it.0 -
I think only the Op can tell us this for sure, but it's unlikely that Sky could have persuaded the OP to sign up again (for at least twelve months) without offering any sweetener."I actually want sky tv but want to have the option of cancelling for some negotiating power." This bit makes me think the OP didnt get any type of deal out of it.0
