Rbs / nationwide

Hi just after peoples thoughts / advice.

I have just paid off my debts and have upgraded my bank accounts from cashcard plus with nationwide.

I have opened a flex direct and flex account with no over draft.

Also have opened a rbs select account - upgraded from basic. I have the contactless full offline card with all my accounts etc.

Which one going forward do you think gives the best options to use as my full account for wages and savings.

(I am going to use the flex direct as savings but unsure which would give me the best options for future usage eg loyalty offers and credit card / mortgages etc.

I have read many bad things about rbs but dont want to lose the contactless card option as barclays turned me down and nationwide dont yet do that)

I agree that there is no contest - I'd use Nationwide without a second thought.

Not only is their mobile app/internet banking clearer, more functional and more reliable, but they have better customer service, the features on the current account (e.g. interest) are better, they have better other products, the list could go on...

I'm not clear why anyone would want to bank with RBS/Natwest unless no one else will accept them for an account.

A Natwest and / or RBS current account is very useful if you want to use the Halifax and/or First Direct account switching service.

This is a terrible thing to say about an outfit most of us have an ownership in but unfortunately it is true.

Perhaps other people have different requirements to you?

What requirements would anyone have that can uniquely be fulfilled by Natwest/RBS but not by any other bank, or even a large Building Society?

I think 'chambta' had their company hat on when they posted that. :D

But if they're still wearing it, it'd be good to see if they can give us a couple of USPs? Maybe we've all missed something. ;)

The only benefits that RBS/Natwest has over Nationwide that I can think of are somewhat dubious and going for rather niche areas of the market...

    - If you frequently lose your card, their 'Get Cash' facility could be useful. But it would be more useful to carry a spare card, as 'Get Cash' is restricted to their own ATMs.

    - If you want a decent income stream from compensation, an RBS/Natwest account is highly recommended, as customer service is not their strong point (to put it nicely).

    - If you frequently pay in cash/cheques and don't have a Nationwide branch nearby (but if this was the case, the OP wouldn't have asked the question).

I think it's fair to say that whilst everyone has different requirements, it's a very small minority of people for whom a Natwest/RBS account would be better than a Nationwide account.

Not only that but you have written bad things about RBS in this thread from last month https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4835287, so it seems odd that you'd go back to them again when you made comments like
i did leave rbs straight away i am just passing on my bad experience with them - dont get why people stick with them when there always in the news for shocking thngs and dont even treat there customers with any respect
