Can anyone help? Which Data recovery software?

I downloaded Recuva, which found loads of stuff of mine, but it was not in any obvious location, and retrieving it would have been on a file-by-file photo-by-photo basis. Even when it displayed the file path, the files it found were not actually visible when I went into the location Recuva had found. In many cases the file path was given as ?
I had the impression that Recuva was able to do this.
Unlike some data recovery programs Recuva has no limits imposed and can recover everything at once. Just select everything you want and click Recover - there is even an option to preserve the folder tree.
Importantly it also has an option to find 'non-deleted' files that have been lost in a crash or damaged disk/partition rather than deleted. It's not selected by default though, you need to go into advanced mode.0 -
I did a deep scan with Recuva but obviously didn't select the 'preserve folder tree option'. It may well have found everything but it would have been a daunting task trying to restore my previous folder structure, which was why Glary Undelete was a real godsend.EchoLocation wrote: »Unlike some data recovery programs Recuva has no limits imposed and can recover everything at once. Wouldn't it be worth opening up the enclosure, extracting the disk and putting it into a new external enclosure (which would cost about a tenner)? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If that doesn't work, you're probably going to need to extract the hard drive from the laptop and put it in an external enclosure anyway, so if you haven't got one already, you'll need to get one.
Good advice. You might be lucky and find that the only damage is the power or data connection, so removing the drive and testing it in a caddy is the first thing to do.
if you can't do this yourself (but you can) then a repair shop (no, not PCW) will only charge you around £30 to test it for you,No free lunch, and no free laptop

No, I didnt. I will stop using it and dig out a very old and bad tempered lap top to continue this. Bet that refuses to play nicely.0 -
have you searched for the data yet!!

Have now got access to a computer for a day. Yes I looked for files as per other thread and couldnt see anything. Tried to load macrium to clone it, but internet connection could not be picked up, didnt want to run wizards etc in case that overwrote stuff. Have therefore loaded Recuva portable to try and not over write anything on to a pen drive via the borrowed computer. Fired up the rogue and ran Recuva wizard. 30% of stuff marked green, most of which seems to be internet searches. A few photos on the .jpg search but all are backed up on cd. Nothing from 2009-2014 .jpg showing.Have run the deepscan twice for a minimum of 30 minutes. Both times it has locked at the 350k files mark with an estimated time left of 4 days. Feeling resigned to go down the factory reset route, see if I can use it for surfing only.
Thanks for your efforts to give me guidance.0 -
Dear Wortle,
Sorry to hear of your data plight. May I throw my hat in the ring with Test Disk, which you can get from this link, http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
I have used this successfully with many hard drives, and also SD Cards, and it worked for me. The software is free, and has no restrictions. I used it recently as a friend of mine turned up and told me he had deleted his wedding photos, and those of the first weeks after his twin sons were born. Needless to say, I managed to recover everything for him, and he is still married lol!
PM me if you would with an email address, and I will help you recover what you need.
Regards
Simon G0
